An unexpected portrait 'session' - she stepped into a village store I was in and as soon as I saw her, I knew I had to take a shot. From my new blog post.
That's a great portrait. Love her eyes and every wrinkle in her face. The shadows on the right are a little too dark for my personal liking, but other than that that's one beautiful photo.

Thanks, Phil. She was side-lit and I wanted that effect of her left eye.

Just a supremely well composed and processed image my friend! The weathered face show much character and life. BW only enhances the relationship between the light and the darkness. The creative thinking in BW is that their is an "edge". ie..A hard edge between the light and darkness hence a wonderful element in your composition. I remember 2 things that stood out in my limited photographic schooling:
1) chiaroscuro -molted lighting with an nice contrast, albiet extreme, between the light and dark areas. FYI..have NOT heard or seen this term used in many, many years.
2)George Orwell said, and your image exemplifies this exactly!..."as adults we into the faces we deserve...reveal the inner being.
You certainly have done that here!

Character exudes from this image. Strong, weathered and wishing to hear the stories to be told though those eyes give goosebumps!
Love it!
