Nice series with posing and lighting! I would say that the 4th image would be stronger if you removed the hair from her bare shoulder. Number 5 could also use some cleanup on her left arm. Two and three are nicely done, but I don't get the connection I do with one, four and five.

I love women wearing hats! She is beautiful and you did her proud! My only nit is the light on the pupils. Not a biggie, not a negative just a, hopefully, constructive comment.

I might add that this was usually brought up to me when I posted a facial image with the pupils lit. Never really thought about it..sort of took it for granted...until constructive advice!
Again great work!

I like the compositions and the dark background as there is noting to detract from the subject. #3 for me.

Dan,

I know this question is going to sound snarky and I truly don't mean it that way. I'm just trying to understand your comment. Why do you consider it a bad thing to have catch lights in the eyes? In photography school I was taught that catch lights are a good thing. They help to brighten the eyes and help to make them look more alive. I've never heard anyone say that they should be removed. Or, am I misunderstanding your comment?

Thanks,
Scott

No negativity in your response taken Scott. I guess I must say it is because of feedback I got on my posts that had the catch light in the pupils. It's not that it is bad..just maybe a distraction? I have not seen many "bad" post here on FM.
Very few, if any, positive exceptions to the pupil light was mentioned in the responses to my post.
Truthfully, most of the time I see it but it doesn't concern me.

I guess I just thought it was sort of a "given" that said pupil light was not attractive in a portrait image.

Now I am sure there are few/many posts making the same remark I presented. But in the end it is all about what the photographer and client likes.

Your point is extremely valid and I will hence adjust my remarks accordingly Scott! Thanks for bringing that to my attention!
Dan

Dan, thanks for taking the time to explain. I certainly don't mean anything negative toward your comment at all. I've just never heard that point of view before and was curious as to why someone felt that way. I agree with you that it all comes down to what the client and photographer like.

If you feel so inclined, Google "catch lights in photography" and take a look at the "images" tab. You'll see many great examples of catch lights. Also, follow some of the links on the "all" tab and you'll find that most photographers go out of their way to create catch lights.

I'm not saying that you should agree and start adding catch lights to your subjects, I'm just pointing out that adding catch lights is a common practice. Do whatever works for you!

Scott

THANK YOU SCOTT! I
None of your comments were taken as negative!

I will certainly enter your suggestion into what little memory I have left and will research further.
Thanks. I will say that comments made about MY use of an on-board flash were legitimate. I tend to rely on FM members to point out my mistakes and learn from them.
Again thanks Scott! Appreciate your input!
