Nice work indeed, thank you for sharing. The "sun" looks more like the moon, as already noted (which is even better as it is more natural after sunset). I noticed the shutter speed changed from 1/2000 to 1/4000 later in the series, as if you expected them to fly. Was it really necessary, or simply made you feel more confident in acquiring sharp images? Could 1/3200 work?

Thank you very much, Dmitri! Yes, it looks more like the moon although it is neither. Direction-wise, it is more the location of the sun. Yes, I changed it to the higher shutter speed to make sure that I could freeze the movement. I did it previously under similar circumstances and I could see a slight movement of the owl or owls. But I guess, 1/3200 would have worked, too.

These captures are beautiful. The lighting adds great atmosphere and the sequences tells a story about the owls. Wonderful work!!
Thank you very much for your kind words, Nelson!

Excellent work as always my friend
Joshua, you have spent a lot of time learning these birds, the area they are in, their habits, etc. and it’s clear your experience has reaped benefits. This is a wonderful set as others have said. Each one worthy and tough to pick a favorite.

Well done! Love them all
Thank you very much for your kind words, Michael! Yes, I have spent a lot time at this location. But only recently, I spent about half of the time in the afternoon/evening. During the last several seasons, I mostly spent the morning when they were active hunting those green iridescent “June bugs”.
I am really sad that it may come to an end before too long… I really hope that we would be able to go back next year though, at least one more season.

I wasn’t able to get out there much this year, so I hope so too. The one thing good is that permits can take a very long time to get approved so i think there is a good chance next year will be an option.
There have been groups of birds in the general area for years. I have no idea if it’s the same birds, but when chased away from one they tend to show up somewhere else not terribly far away. That said, those suitable areas are certainly shrinking. Learned of another million square foot warehouse going up that takes another big chunk of land away.

If everything goes well for us but less so for the developer, for example, if the permitting gets delayed and tied up in the long agency mill, we need to go there fairly early in the season when the owlets just emerge from the burrow in fluffy feathers. They are truly adorable then.
