Shooting hand-held while hanging out of a second story window with a 1000mm-equivalent lens after sunset doesn't yield many keepers, but it was fun trying.

How did you kill it? Back to Camera Canada, or
I mounted it on the camera and when I pressed the shutter button to focus, it started making a fairly loud whining noise and wouldn't focus. It kept making noise even after I shut the camera off, until I pulled the battery out. After that it was okay for a while, but the problem happened again a couple of times; the last time it bricked the camera until I removed the battery and lens. It's on its way back to Camera Canada.

Bummer. Even if replaced or repaired it is always a pain in the ass shipping and waiting for another one.
By the way, do you know if this formation is on Denman or Hornby and exact location. Thought maybe it was close to Ford's Cover, but can't find any precise directions.

From where Chrome Island sits in the background, it must be just south of Ford's Cove - or possibly around Norris Rocks. I don't recognize that rock formation, though.

Yes, it seems it is Heron Rocks near Norman Point. Supposedly you can hike from Ford's Cove at low tide? There is a road access from Central Road, but not accessible through property belonging to Heron Rocks Camping Co-Operative.
It looks to me like the most impressive rock formation on Hornby, and as a resident it is up to you to scope it our for me.

I live on Gabriola, Tony
We do have some similar rock formations, though...
