Indeed. I took it for granted living nearby for many years. Now that I live in Southern Delaware I really appreciate the diverse terrain along the Potomac and the CO Canal.

Yes! My brother just moved to Frankford, DE I, my wife also, grew up in oldetowne Gaithersburg and took it for granted then also....
I loved going there. About a half mile bike ride (no traffic on Falls Road back when I was a kid). I fished the canal and the falls (after some ill-advised clambering). I only ever caught one fish in the falls - a tiny small mouth bass. I let it go as I did all the fish I caught. Ah, hot, humid days. Noisy cicadas. Cicada killers buzzing by. Fat sunfish in the depths of the locks.
I took a lot of photos there with my Minolta X700 and a 50mm.
