p.1 #1 · Ancient Valley Oak floating in a bed of daffodils
There's a spot in the Auburn State Recreation Area, where seasonal daffodils bloom around an Ancient Valley Oak. As far as I know it's not maintained but the bloom has been occurring for a number of years. Let's hope it keeps going despite the awful drought we have going on in the West of the USA.

Beautiful, the first image. The effect (Orton?) you have imparted the tree works very well here.
Thanks Rajan. I've been sitting on these images for a few months so can't remember exactly what I did. I have started finishing my images for Color Efex Pro and play around with a combination of "Brilliance/Warmth" "Foliage", "Sunlight". The latter is the one that imparts an orton glow but I try to be light-handed with all of them. Worth a look if you haven't already.

I like the balance in the second image. Great colors in both.
Thanks. Great comment. I always try and take a vertical and a horizontal comp if possible.

Very striking compositions and well processed. Both are great, but love the first one more.
Thanks Chez. It's not entirely original - I'm hardly the first person with a camera to take a picture of this, even though it is a bit of a secret spot. But I did get as low as I could, shoot with a 15mm tilted slightly up. This was my third visit that year to try and get decent light.

Yes, I have been using the Nik Suite for years (just upgraded to Nik 4.0 which is full of bugs as the thread on the Post Processing forum will reveal). If I remember correctly, the "Glamour Glow" preset simulates the Orton Effect. You are quite right about the soft touch. If I use any of the Color Efex Pro effects, they are filtered through a Luminosity or Colour mask generated by Tony Kuyper's powerful TK panel.
