Well I decided to compromise on my FF aspirations in favor of weight/size/convenience. I found a reasonable deal on a used a6400 and a 10-18mm zoom. It totals 628 grams, or ~1.38 lbs. add a couple of spare batteries and a light weight travel tripod and I’’l be at 1,114g, or 2.45lbs. I know it’s not a prime lens and the f/4 isn’t great at low light, but the improved iso capabilities of the a6400 should help plus the o/s on this lens will allow decent hand held shots during the day. I can always try adding a 2.8 prime or the 18-135mm zoom at a later date if I find I need to supplement this kit.
Thanks again for everyone’s input and suggestions. Hopefully down the road I can find a deal on a used a7c or larger A7 series for use around town, with an Astro lens, or while on day hikes with a prime or two.

Good choice man, I think you'll be happy, the AF on the 6400 is really good. I usually only carry one extra battery on a multi day trip. I do however bring a small power pack and I can charge my phone, gps watch and camera with that also.
