Hey Everyone! Need some help with selecting a tripod.
I have narrowed my search to Peak Design (Carbon) or Gitzo Traveler Series 2 tripods. Both come in around the same price range, size, and weight. I do not shoot professionally, just looking for something that I can carry with me to family trips. My setup is really simple Sony A7RIV body with 24-70GM or 70-200GM.
Do any of you have experience in both of these tripods and can give some advice which one to pick?

I have both tripods. I would go with the 2545T if using the 70-200.
I don’t have the 70-200, but do have the 100-400 and 200-600. Simple testing at home shows me that the resistance to vibration is better with these white lenses on the 2545T than it is on the PDTT.
If just taking the 24-70, the PDTT is fine and really is more convenient to carry/pack.

maybe what you need to do is go to B&H and look at both of them and others that are on display there.

If "fold" length is your primary factor neither Leofoto tripod suggested by sjms is going to beat the Peak or Gitzo.
That said, I wholly agree with sjms on his Leofoto suggestions since I myself have the Leofoto LS-324C with the LH-40 ball head. Both tripod and head are very good quality and cost less than the Peak Design.
Additionally the ball head on either the LS-284C (LH-30) or LS-324C (LH-40), are far more versatile than the one on the Peak Design. The LH40 will easily hold your gear.
I'm very happy with my Leofoto LS-324C and carry it everywhere. And in fact just bought a Leofoto tripod strap for it as posted here.

I was looking at tripods recently and to me neither the Peak Design or Gitzo Traveler Series 2 really competes with each other. The PD is super small when collapsed, but a bit flimsier as a trade off and the Gitzo is a lot longer collapsed, but of course will be stronger. Classic 3 sections vs 4 section tripod, so if those are the two you narrowed it down to, you just have to determine what is more important. Portability or sturdiness?

Look at the Feisol CT-3441T travel tripod. It supports 44 lbs - really as I own one, and has a working height before the center column is raised of 57 inches. Built quality is somewhat better than the RRS version and the Feisol tripod comes with an excellent carry case - all I got from RRS was a cardboard box.

Thanks Andrew. Yes portability is top of my criteria - no tripod is good if I have to think twice before packing with me. So with that in mind, would you say Gitzo is better option (keeping money aside)?

Also have both, and agree 100% with the above. I would probably keep the smallest leg section collapsed on the Peak when using the 70-200 (and with lens collar only). But then you are height constrained and the Peak is not a very tall set of sticks to begin with.
That said the sheer compactness of the Peak is really something special. It will fit into bags and sections of bags that the 2545T (+head) may not.

I can't speak on the Gitzo as I've never used or handled one. @sjms may be the better person to ask.
My tripod folds down to 18.9 without ballhead and 20.1 with it. I don't mind the longer fold length since it also affords a taller tripod when extended. Here there's a compromise - shorter fold length or taller tripod. Since I'm 6 foot even, I prefer a taller tripod. That's me.

Thanks, yea was leaning more on 2545T. Any recommendation on the ball head? Was thinking of just getting the kit head that comes with it at BH.
Did you end up with the 2545T ? If so, did you buy the kit ballhead? I am going with the 2545T but somewhat conflicted over the ball head. Several note the knobs tend to loosen all the way out. Gtizo makes another that is compatible but adds weight and length to the 'pod. the 1382QD seems like a better head than the Series I 1382QDT with the addition of a friction knob. The 3382QD might be overkill for a traveler, but it fits and only adds and inch to the overall dimension, but the extra pound is significant. Best,

Have a look at Robus. Have read some reviews that are very positive and have one on order. They do look like VFM compared to the more expensive brands.

Instead of the $1100 for the RRS TVC-34L and a carry case with Fiesol I spent
$600 CT-3472 legs which includes a top quality carry case
$84 for the Feisol Leveling Base
$63 for the Feisol Center Column kit (diameter and rigidity is a much greater than a standard center column set of legs.
So I have a standard set of legs for use with a ball head or gimbal head
And a quick leveling tripod for use shooting video or landscapes
And a Center Column that is sturdy enough to provide me with a rock solid gain in working height of 7 inches which is very useful when photographing subjects high on a hillside or up in a tree. Full support with a gimbal head and a 600mm f/4 lens at a working height of 64 inches (plus the 3" gain in height with the gimbal head).
Total Feisol investment was $747 or 30% less than I paid for the TVC-34L and a carry case for it. I wanted the TVC34L for the working height it provided but with it long collapsed length I could not hand carry it onto plane which I can do with the Feisol CT-3472.
I have enough experiences with airline personnel theft and damage and misrouting of checked baggage and of strongly feel that I should not check in anything I will need or can easily replace at my final destination.
It takes less than a minute to change out the base plate, quick level base, or the center column kit, so I have no hesitation to make the swap depending on what I want to photography.
Feisol also makes a horizontal adapter that sells for $84.

After going through a similar exercise recently I settled on the Leofoto LS-284C with a Sirui K-10x ballhead and couldn't be happier. I purchased just the legs on ebay for $269 and the ballhead on Amazon on a great sale for $99. This setup is light and easy to carry while hiking and is very stable with my D750 and either 24-70 f/2.8 or 70-200 f/4. I was worried the k-10x wouldn't be strong enough for my setup but it adjusts as smooth as butter and locks down rock solid.
