Any thoughts? I just want a light tripod, around 2.2 lbs, that can support the setup above, and be pretty solid. I don't have a crazy need for height, and reversible center column is merely 'nice to have'.

Finding a tripod around 2.2lbs with >10lbs weight is a hard category. Most of the recommendations here are closer to 3lbs, and there are a lot of great options in the 3lbs category. For the +/- 2lbs category, my wife loves her Manfrotto element carbon small tripod, which has so far successfully held up her A7RIII and Sigma 24-70. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1382423-REG/manfrotto_mkeles5cf_bh_element_traveler_carbon_fiber.html/specs
It seems too flimsy for my liking, but I personally don't mind the extra lbs for a better, taller, more stable tripod.

I personally think FLM tripods are the best value on the market currently, especially since Leofoto's prices have risen dramatically since last summer. I'm 6'4", so I use a FLM CP-30 L4 II, which at just over 3lbs is plenty lightweight for me. Heck, I carry both the CP-30 L4 II and a little SunwayFoto T1C30N tripod everywhere I hike.

The FLM CP-30 S4 II is 2.5lbs, so if I wanted a shorter, more lightweight tripod, I'd probably get that one. That tripod with a Really Right Stuff BPC-16 or the Leofoto knock-off would make for a pretty damn lightweight setup in my opinion.

Provide an example of a Leofoto tripod who's price has "risen dramatically", especially the ones discussed in this thread...

LS-284C (the one I considered)
LS-324C (the one I have)
LS-224C (the one the OP is considering)

The FLM is more expensive ($441) than any of the above listed. And you don't get a ballhead with it. Nothing wrong with making a sales pitch for the other guy, but let's not embellish things now.

The Center Colum website says the prices used to be a lot lower, but I don't know if the prices he listed at the time were correct. It's normal for Chinese made stuff to rise dramatically in price once it gets popular.

LS-284 used to be $200 and now it is $349.
LS-324C was $288 and now it is $400.
LS-224C only went up by $17.

I sense that you don't believe me. I'm not insulting your tripod or trying to make a sales pitch. I own a number of Leofoto products and am pleased with them all. The LB-60 is in my opinion the best leveling base on the market dollar for dollar, and I wish their VH-30 pan head had come out before I spent $400+ on my Acratech pano head. Leofoto makes excellent products.

I don't think saying "risen dramatically" to describe a 25% price increase over 9 months on their most popular tripods is embellishing anything. I have a spreadsheet of their Summer 2020 prices because I was tripod searching last summer and created an excel sheet comparing the weight, height, and prices of the various tripods under consideration, including Leofoto, FLM, and RRS tripods.

The following are prices for all of the tripods I was considering as of June 2020:
FLM CP30 L4 II $460
FLM CP30 M5 $495
LS-365CEX $465
LS-324CEX $360
RRS TFC-24L $985
LS-365C $279
LS-323 $280
LS-284C (with ballhead) $280

The LS-365CEX is now $580, the LS-324CEX is now $450, the LS-365C is $350, the LS-284C w/LH-30 is $350 (Amazon). The LS-323 is the only one that has remained at last summer's price of $280. I'm sure Leofoto was trying to increase their presence in the market last summer, which is why they offered such good coupons driving their prices down, but the point remains that Leofoto's prices dramatically increased since June 2020. (about 25%). The increase also applies to a lesser extent to many of their other products as well, when I added their BV-10 to my Amazon wishlist last summer, it was $170. It now usually clings in at $199 except for the occasional coupon.

Circa Summer 2020, Leofoto was unquestionably the best value on the market, bar none. You could get a LS-324CEX for a mere $360. My point is simply that I don't think they are the best value anymore dollar for dollar. They are still one of the best, but whereas last summer there was no question, now I think FLM takes the lead, albeit only slightly.

Regarding the LS224C, it doesn't meet the OP's criteria of rated for 22lbs (13.23lbs), so I didn't see the need to address it, and the LS-284 weighs as much as his Feisol 3441s, so I didn't see the need to reference that either. My underlying point is that there are very few, if any, tripods that meet OP's criteria of being ~2lbs and rated at ~22lbs. Once you go up to 3lbs, there are a lot more options, but they are also as heavy as the 3441S that OP doesn't love.

Does anyone own the Leofoto LX-225CT? I can only find one review for it, which was pretty good. Seems to fit a lot of the OP's criteria as well as mine. $300 doesn't seem like a bad price and it sure is a compact and light tripod.

That would also be a great option for a small, second tripod if you needed something larger than a table top for the second body for timelapse etc. Looks very similar to the small Manfrotto element but with the center column not fixed in place. Looks like there is a discussion about it here. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1599321/0

The only Amazon posting says center column not included? Seems strange.

Perfect for me, I want one for backpacking and to throw in my backpack for work and for sure this will not be my main tripod.

Someone asked on Amazon why it says it does not include the center column and Leofoto said it was a listing error. Seems like they just copy and pasted the description in that field for the Ranger series. I am guessing that if they fix that description it will generate a new listing and lose the reviews in the process.

Let's get it straight.... though "I" own a Leofoto tripod, I'm hardly a spokesperson for them nor do I gain anything from saying I like the tripod I have.

That said, I don't care what tripod the OP gets, I'm just posting on the FUD you posted on prices. Outside of that your opinions are yours.

And when I bought my tripod in September, those prices you listed were pretty much the same then, and I doubt they jumped that high from June, but "even" if they did, they're still cheaper than your listed FLM tripod!

Peace 😎

So you are saying that thecentercolumn listed the wrong prices for all three of the tripods you listed?

Peace to you too. I gain nothing from FLM or any other brand, but what I posted is objectively accurate. You're the one that seemed to take issue with me stating the actual fact that Leofoto tripods increased in price dramatically since last summer (25%), and you are again seeming to question my integrity with this "but "even" if they did" nonsense. The prices increased by about 25%. Fact. Here is a screenshot of an Amazon order for a LS-284C+LH-30 in June 2020 when they were selling for $280. I don't understand what your issue is, but I hope you have a pleasant day.

Edited to add: OP, apologies for the derail. I hope you're able to find the unicorn you're looking for. That LX-225CT may be the ticket.

Yes, that's what it was in September 2020 when I was going to get it, which was cheaper than B&H had it for (about $299). Why? Because Amazon was discounting it for Prime members!!!

The only reason I didn't get that one was because I was concerned with it's max height. The LS-324C is taller, and thus why I got that one.

And yeah, OK, prices are rising on lots of imports. Anyway, as I said.... STILL cheaper than the FLM. Period.

😉

And yes, to the OP, sorry for derailing your post. Out.

p.2 #12 · Light Travel Tripod

So I just recieved my Leofoto LX-224CT tripod in the mail this morning.

51 inches tall
14.37 inches collapsed
4 leg pieces
2.42 lbs total weight
Supports 26 lbs

I am really impressed with the build quality and the operation of it. The ball head is really nice, but a little bit large and heavy compared to the rest of the tripod. I have a cheap but solid Sunway ballhead that is much smaller and weighs a quarter pound less I can throw on there if I am going on a really long distance backpacking trip.

I felt like I really took a chance ordering this because I don't know anyone with this model let alone a Leofoto tripod to test out and it is not even listed on Leofoto's official website. I can find reviews for the 5 piece leg version, but that seems like it would be too flimsy and only reduces the collapsed size by barely over an inch.

This will be great for travelling and backpacking. The circumference is really small and it is super light once you remove the single center column and replace it with a smaller ballhead. I'll almost always just keep the center column and original ballhead. It is just so nice that it will be worth the quarter pound. I think this could be a really popular tripod for backpackers.

The only downside is that it does not come with spiked feet, so I will have to buy those separately since the thread size is smaller than my Benro tripod that came with spikes. It came with everything else you could want though; a very nice travel case, tools, and carabiner for the hook hanger.

I purchased mine as an open box, but new for just over $200 shipped. Definitely fits all the OP's criteria, which is very difficult to find without paying an arm and a leg.

I have been using the GT1545 T Traveler when I travel. Fits in my carry on luggage and is quite sturdy. IT is not cheap but worth it in my opinion

I think I'm deciding between the Leofoto LS-224C and the Gitzo GT1545T Traveler. Really helps narrow down the research...

Piggybacking on this discussion, the Leofotos look like excellent tripods for the price, but the issue I have with them is that they can't be converted to monopods, which is something I'd like to have if I have to replace my Feisol.

I found this Sirui A1205 while searching:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1378861-REG/sirui_a1205y_a1205_carbon_fiber_tripod.html/specs

It has only 22lb capacity (although it should suffice for most needs).

Anybody using it?
