Killer images! All are awesome images but the first one is over the top! I am assuming the first image was not cropped much. Was the first image cropped much? If it was cropped considerably it will have me considering switching from my Nikon setup. Thanks for sharing I think
Ricky
The first image is only 7MPs left out of 50MPs. And that was after adding canvas. I caught that blastoff in the far upper right corner of the frame as I didn't react fast enough.

Some nice images that previous cameras may not have been able to capture due to slower fps or less effective AF. As far as the look of some of those images, they look about the same as those taken with a Nikon D500 or Canon 1DMk4, or other similar DSLR's.
Some noticeable smearing of feather detail on some, perhaps from Topaz DeNoise AI?
JMO,
Tony
Could be Topaz but more likely it is just the good old FM smear filter that happens to every thing we upload on here. If you hop over to my Flickr you can view all these images at full size without the grease smeared over them

Amazing stuff ! Just wondering if you print any of your images and if you are seeing incremental upgrades in IQ each time you upgrade equipment. I say this because here on the web all your previous work looks exceptional also.
Gary
I do print once or twice a year. My camera purchases aren't really based on getting IQ upgrades. I've been happy with the IQ of my cameras for many years now.
I buy these new cameras for other features that I find help me get more keepers for fast action. The A1 is basically the type of camera I've been dreaming about for years. Lots of MPs for cropping, lots of FPS, best AF available, slideshow free EVF and the Bird Eye-AF feature
Superb images, Geoff! The first one super gorgeous! I didn’t expect anything less from you and, knowing how well the camera works first hand, also from the camera . These images EMV.

Well it only works that way when you know how to use the gear you just bought. It sure as hell looks like you do! This is a super set, congrats.
On a different note. I'll be up front, I'm a bit skeptical on this body. I have not used one so it's only my cynicism coming out. So I'll ask a few hard questions that you are free to ignore if you want.
How long is the battery life in the real world?
I know it's early yet but what's the focus like compared to a9ii?
Have you shot with any Canon lenses? If so does it focus better than a9ii?
Battery life is the worst I've had with a Sony body...sort of Canon R5 bad...or maybe worse. However I always ran my A9II with Power Save set to 30mins and on the A1 that seems to be too hard on the batteries. Today I turned that down to 10s. Then my battery life greatly improved. The A1 is so much faster to wake up that you can let it go into Power Save without much issue. In fact you can actually just turn the camera off. It wakes from power off so fast that if I hit the switch as I'm raising the camera to my eye the EVF is on and ready as it gets to my eye.
I believe focus is a bit better than the A9II. I've had some very long sequences (I just posted a 37 shot gif on another thread) where 90+% were perfectly focused on the head. Even if it isn't better it is easily on par with the A9II.
I haven't tried any Canon lenses yet. I don't own any big lenses anymore. Just my smaller 16-35 and 24-70.

Hey, are you saying Fred is running a smear campaign?
I hear the Canon R1 will have an anti-FM smear filter. Have you pre-ordered one?

Super images Geoff. You are taking less than 1000 images an hour. Is it now time for a computer upgrade with the huge increase in FPS and file size? How long did it take to sport the 5K images? The first 4 are simply superb.
Morris
Thanks Morris. I use a program that my friend developed that culls off the embedded jpeg. It is super fast so I can cull pretty quickly but it is a chore. For my 3rd day out I switched down to a more reasonable 15FPS instead of 30FPS.

Makes sense. Looks and sounds like an absolutely amazing piece of equipment.
great images. The issue here is the camera and its price. Question: is it worth the money? could you get the same quality images with a camera at 1/3 the price?

looking good Geoff. I guess you will be posting shorties soon
Thanks Arash,
No shorties till next November. Even when I went in January I couldn't find any. People have seen them since but nothing like December with 5 or 6 flying around you at once and probably 20 or more out there.
