Saturday's first set....all shot from my kayak with the big gun....I'm getting used to using it from the kayak now after three days of practice. May not have to go back to the 200-600....
Beautiful captures! Are you not happy with your 200-600 on A1? Just curious... Obviously if you own a 600mm F4 GM you should use it as much as possible. Take care

I'm happy with the 200-600 on the A1. Just nice to have the f/4 in the first hour of sunrise. Also the A1 starts to show the better optics of the 600GM off more so than I noticed on the lower resolution A9. So I have sort of become addicted to the biting contrast and sharpness that the bare 600 provides on the A1. So much so that I also don't shoot it with TCs very often anymore.
this is the second year in a row that i have seen this pair raise 3 chicks to flight ready. they were stretching wings and feeling the wind/uplift a bit today

my second outing with the A1, and the 200-600. i am kind of new to this birding , so i am not sure what bird this is. i would appreciate it if someone could identify it for me, then i can look in my petersons guide when it arrives today
Try "song sparrow".
I heartily recommend the "Merlin Bird ID" app. May not identify all your bird images, but usually identifies them from reasonable photos with very little faff. Usually works even when taking a photo of a display showing a bird image.
I too am considering selling the 1.4tc. The only time I use it is in good light with perched birds. I have shot a few Osprey dives with the 1.4 TC and had no issues with AF, but I don't like the high ISO that results with the combo (10-12800 easily once light starts to drop) Starting to think I'm better off with bare lense and just sell the TC. My previous A9II really benefited from the TC due to low resolution, but the A1 doesn't need it.
Take care

Thanks to arbitrage and Maxxus46 for interesting observations.
I don't have the FE 200-600 G or the FE 600/4 GM.
But I own the FE 100-400 GM, the FE 400/2.8 GM, and both the 1.4x and 2x TC.
On the A9 I used the 2x TC quite a bit with both of my lenses.
However lately I have preferred the 1.4x TC as I noticed a tiny drop in IQ with the 2x TC.
Of course I will keep both TCs and use them when needed.
When shooting Hummingbirds up close I tend to use either one of my lenses without a TC.
If suddenly another bird appears briefly a bit further away, my A9 plus lens doesn't tend to have enough reach.
That situation certainly seems to have improved quite a bit with the A1 due to its increased pixel count.

I’ve been meaning to ask for awhile now Arbitrage. Are all (or any) your shots I’ve been seeing here (mostly BIF) handheld or do you use any gimbal or monopod?
Thanks
