A couple more from the first day, nothing special.
Not a great shot, but eye autofocus activated successfully. Using zone or wide in this situation before would have likely ended up with the backside of the bird in focus instead of the eye:
Hunter in the grass:
Sony ILCE-1
FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS
ƒ/6.3 600.0 mm 1/2500 640
Eye auto focus helped with the low angle shots and tilt screen
Sony ILCE-1
FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS
ƒ/6.3 600.0 mm 1/2500 1600
I like the tilting screen being in alignment with the lens. I do wish it rotated somehow for low angle portrait orientation shots:
Sony ILCE-1
FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS
ƒ/6.3 407.0 mm 1/1000 250
After being pixel starved with the A9, I got greedy trying to fill the frame and clipped the wings on every wings up image from the take off sequence and was left with wings not up:
Sony ILCE-1
FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS + 1.4X Teleconverter
ƒ/9.0 840.0 mm 1/2500 1600
Took my A1 for a walk today, nothing exciting but these are my first bird shots with the A1. The Eye AF could even pick out the eye of the perched red wing black bird. Hoping to try it out for some bald eagles as soon as I can get away from work.
Took the 100-400 +1.4tc in the kayak today. Not happy with that setup, it just doesn't do it for me. Still managed this one and some other good ones. Going to crawl back to the 200-600 for dirty work and probably send my 1.4x in to get checked out and cleaned.

What don't you like about it? I have a 100-400mm on the way and was debating adding a TC for more reach. The 200-600mm is just too big to be portable enough for a hike for me.
Mine seems soft. My 100-400 is super sharp. With the 1.4x it gets soft. I need to stop down to f11 to get any kind of sharpness and even then it seems off. I'll be contacting Sony at some point as it must be defective. As for the setup in general I don't mind the weight of the 200-600, I walk around with the 600f4 on my shoulder strap all the time. The added light from the 200-600 for situations where I don't want to bring the f4 is worth it to me.
If you look carefully in the image I posted above you can see almost a gaze or glow around the edges of the egret, something is not right.

My 100-400 is very sharp. Amazing actually. I find that the 1.4 TC is all but unnoticeable on it. Yes, I would have your TC checked if it is softening your image. Probably best to send your 100-400 in with it so they can be tested and adjusted if needed as a pair.
