Are you ever worried about dropping your gear while in the kayak? I've been thinking about getting one.
With the type of kayak I have and the conditions I kayak in, I don't worry at all about tipping or dropping gear.
I use the Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 kayak which is very wide and stable. It has a huge cockpit opening if you don't install the cupholder accessory. My camera/lens sits between my legs/in my lap. The only time I'd be at risk of dropping would be getting out of the kayak but I just leave the lens on the floor, get out, and then get the camera/lens out. You can always put the camera/lens in a dry bag for launching and landing. I used to do this but don't bother anymore. I have a big bath towel on the floor of the kayak between my legs. I can use that as floor padding or to cover the camera if I'm getting spray from unexpected wind.
I restrict my kayaking to calm days on lakes or our local protected ocean fed lagoon.
