Sony A1 70 200 gm ii + 2x
+ crop in camera @ 600mm Could you share shutter speed iso . I have been testing my 70-200 II with 2x and it looks soft. Maybe I need to crank up the shutter speed a bit. It looks great with the 1.4 and bare. Thanks

If the 2x looks soft for the same setup where the 1.4x looks sharp, try stopping down. But be aware that when inspected at 100% view of stills, the 2x isn't expected to be tack sharp, not even on a prime (unless you use a low rez body). For testing sharpness I'd recommend a tripod (or simply place the cam on a sturdy surface) and a non-moving target not too far away. Then ISO<=500 and shutter 1/1000s or faster.

Gonna use the 200-600 . No 2x for me
This afternoon I thought I saw a small coyote from my office window, I grabbed the A1+100-400 and headed out the door. The back of our house is backed up to a small ravine with large mesquite trees, when I made it to the side of the house, to my surprise, it was a small bobcat. In the first shot you can see its kill...a ground squirrel. I missed a number of shots as the focus hit a mesquite branch just in front of the bobcat. Even so, not all was lost, I was able to capture a decent series before the little bobcat made its way back down to the ravine.

BTW, if you to avoid missing shots because there're stuff in the foreground, have expand spot/tracking expand spot (one of those spots) as your main focus area that's associated with shutter button and then register wide area and assign BBF to do 'Reg AF Area + AF On' (This will change AF area to wide and also Focus)
This way you can have two different AF areas at same time. I use BBF for BIF and shutter button for static subjects. Some times the wide area can struggle to find the subject if the foreground is cluttered.
One thing I'm not sure about is if the shutter button will try to focus even when BBF is pressed. If it does this can affect accuracy of focus for BIF. So far it doesn't look like the case. Once BBF is pressed, shutter button doesn't try to override it. Experts can correct me
I spotted the young bobcat again this morning heading around my neighbors fence, we have a new home build in the area and he/she got nervous and ran off from the construction noise. I was able to capture a few shots before hand.
