Another disclaimer: sorry about the hit and miss here on FM. COVID has had me working up to 20 hours a day, working on high end art gallery deadlines (fine art enlargements/processing) and trying to keep all the other aspects of the photography business running, with my wife sick on and off this year and several tough losses. With her help it is challenging, without it, well it has felt almost like drowning at times! She is doing better (thank God, I love my wife!) and I see light at the end of the tunnel. That said, if it takes me a while to get back to comments or messages/emails… that is why. Thank you for your understanding!

Wow odd picturesque rock with curious formation shape that I never seen before.
beautifully taken at best angle in wonderful color that well matched atmosphere
Thank you so very much! I appreciate the encouragement. I’m almost 100% certain no one has photographed this. If people had, I guarantee there would be a road to and a parking lot at its location! Takes some work to get to it. I’ll take certain people but only under strict NDA.

Beautiful composition, great location. However, the reds are a bit in-your-face (but that's your aesthetic choice and I understand).
Hi Rajan. It might be a calibration issue (or maybe browser). On my 30 inch Adobe RGB monitor calibrated to 2.2 gamma, 6500 White Point and 128cd or Luminance (in a mellow diffused and professionally controlled lit room) with the iOne Display Pro, the colors are spot on and actually conscientiously tamed a little for believability. It was more intense than this. Also, SRGB. I would respectfully actually not agree that having reds “in peoples face” is NOT my style, and in most cases I like to pull back just a little for believability. Maybe in the past I was less aware of this.

Excellent work on this, Mark. That balancing is amazing.
Thank you so much! So amazing, I can not wait to get back this year! I’m planning on a private workshop with just a couple people. NDA of course. But it is no easy task. It's funny because on IG I think someone may have made fun of me by Photoshopping a huge rock on a small stool like this, some insinuating it is not real. Well, the next time I post a photo from the site I will post a video too (I have about 5 videos of this rock). Laying the Canon 11-24@11mm on the ground was helpful in getting the full effect though.

Incredible shot and I appreciate you finding shoots outside of the beaten track. I think the "looming" feeling of the top of the rock balances well with the bottom fifth or so of the frame, which I think in landscape we tend to have increasing distance as we move up in the frame.
I see you're shooting with sony alpha. I was reading through one of your older posts from maybe 2018/2019 and it sounded like you were switching to Panasonic S1R. Did you end up sticking with sony? And do you use pixel shift?
Huge thank you very much Sean! It is my passion to find new stuff or at least new takes of things… So its my pleasure! I really have to keep working at my fitness to do it!
Yeah, well I should have gone to the Sony A7R3, but I had just bought 2 A7R2’s and they have the same sensor… I am NOT impressed at all with the Sony A7R4 or its pixel shift. I am still eyeballing the Panasonic Lumix 1SR as still the best 35mm FF digital on the market today for sheer resolution quality. I had a 60/70-% reduction in business (workshops) the last Covid seasons and I have gotten a little behind on the upgrades. I'm glad to pump out 16-20 hour days for gallery post-processing work (and educational materials) and pay the bills (with 5X the overhead of marrying into a close knit family!) but man I can not wait to get back in the field so much more starting this year, and a very aggressive travel schedule for 2022 coming out very soon. That will justify my upgrades. And no way will I get a 80MP Nikon (Mega Pixel OVERSHOOT!) or 60MP FF… The sweet spot for great lenses is about 40-47MP. The D850 is there, the Sony A7R3 is there, the Lumix (with its great lenses and superior pixel shifting is there). So, Iam waiting to see if anyone actually makes a better FF camera for high rez quality.
BUT, having said all that, I am using a MANUAL pixel shift technique in Photoshop, by taking lots of images of the same scene, and some techniques there which can do amazing things…
Thank you for asking.

'At any Moment' ...................that formation may change drastically Mark! Wow that is an impressive image in many ways.
So sorry to hear of your losses, I too can share in those feelings unfortunately, lost my wife of over 35 years.............gives simple things in life much more meaning and appreciation. Someday hope to learn much much more about your processing, right now life doesn't have room to quite absorb it but thanks always for the motivation
Best in travels and finds.............take good care
Karl
Oh man, I am SO, SO SO sorry to hear about your loss!!! Words fail. My awesome step dad, lost my mom (41 years of marriage) and tey were absolute love birds. I’m so sad for his loss!!! And yours. I am a faith person and I have had INCREDIBLE confirmation about my mom, so I feel peace about her. Although I get sad and miss her and my sister often. Thoughts, healing and prayers your way!
It is a pleasure to share this work! I’ll keep doing it as long as I can. I wake up every day in gratitude to do what I love for a living even though I have to pull some very massive hours very often.

Lovely image Mark. Really like how you have composed this with the smaller rock at the bottom right and the top rock jutting out in the sky. Lots to learn.
Sorry for your losses and more power to you.
Cheers,
Gautam
Thank you so very much Gautam! I really appreciate the encouragement! Well I am 53 (I think) feel like I am 30, but realize that different stages of life teach us different things. Having loved ones around me passing away has really helped me realize the value of our time here on earth. Also, what is important (people/faith) and what is not (a lot of stuff we get caught up in). There is a time (it seems a lot of people avoid) that we must learn about death/dying. For a person of faith, it is a good thing to learn. Sobriety! Anyway, blessings on you and your family during these challenging times for somany!

What other 32-bit Raw on Raw Layer workflow did you use in this Image
I am only guessing you may have used the Orton 32-bit Raw on Raw Layer on the sky in this image
"ultimate lossless quality 32-bit Raw on Raw Layer workflow
&ab_channel=MarkMetternichPhotography%2CLLC
First of all thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Lots of losses and blessings at the same time. Pretty intense year or 2…
The entire process (except sizing and sharpening) for this image was done in the New 32-bit Raw Layer Workflow (ZERO degrading). It is absolutely incredible! PURE losslessness.
Misinformation and marketing really make this stuff confusing for people! NO, 16 bit is not lossless, NO Adjustment Layers are not “non destructive”, NO “smart objects” in Photoshop are not “non-destructive.” Any adjustment to the rasterized image is degrading, and some things far more than most would know or believe (a perfect example is the blurring or luminance Noise reduction in that video).
I have a FREE video (almost done) I made only because so many people are asking me and so many are emailing me… about this new Ultimate Quality totally lossless 32-bit Raw Layer workflow. If you want, just PM me your email address and I’ll put you on the list to send the video to you when it is done. This new workflow Adobe has allowed us is going to change everything! Quality we have only dreamed of is available NOW! Eventually I will make 5 full workflows videos, from A to Z. Beginner / Intermediate and Advanced, Ultimate Quality B+W’s and Ultimate Quality Low Light/Star/Milky Way photography… I just need some serious help with the editing of the videos. I have about 30 exciting new tutorials in my head right now that people will love but I have been bogged down with too much work, so it will take a while. Fortunately it looks like I have a new Video editor (or two) that want to swap services, that will be helping me soon!
Lastly, NO I did not use the Lossless 32-Bit Orton on this photo. To tell you the truth, I do not use Orton/Highlight Glow much any more (occasionally). Also, I should note that as a professional educator, I teach everything but always have to tell people when I am teaching that just because I know how to do something, and can teach it to them, it does NOT mean I actually do it in my own photos… I have to teach people what they want to learn… Sometimes, yes, and other times no…
Blessings, and please let me know if I can be of help! Thank you for the encouragement!
