You can basically get both the 65i and 35i for the price of the 35GM. The two lenses probably take up just as much room in the bag as the GM too.

I know and it’s a great thought. I still want a small 35 for just go run out the door with. Well if the 1.4 is just okay I may shift gears. Thanks folks

This is really nice but I really like the one of your wife the 3/4 shot. Not because it’s sharp or anything like that as it is but it’s not jumping out at you saying it is. Make sense

It has a nice glow to it that I like. Oh and say hi.I’m questioning the Sony 35 1.4 I pre ordered over this Sigma 35. I’ll still go ahead with the 1.4 but we can figure that out later and test them both. Is the 35 smaller than the 65

Yes, as long as you don't get too close to faces, 65mm is great. For headshots or even head and shoulders, I jump 85mm and go straight to 135mm.

Perhaps minority here but I really like that the Sigma 35/2 is noticeable wider than 35mm. Similar to what I had with the RX1.

That would make it a great run out the door lens a little wider . That’s a bonus.

I’m wondering if I should grab one . I’m not sure I’ll get the Sony on April 12. I maybe waiting for awhile.

With the idea of keeping lenses as small but high IQ as possible for my A7C I’m thinking of buying the Sigma 35 and 65 to join my Sony 20/1.8. These sigmas appear to have much nicer rendering and bokeh then the new Sony Gs

Yes I’m there with the Laowa 14mm, Sony 20mm 1.8 , I have on order the Sony 35 1.4 , sigma 65, Batis 135 coming tomorrow

My question to myself is this GM 35 worth it. I’m at about 1480 bucks for it and how long is it going to take to get it. This Sigma is 639.00

Hmmm. I do want something small like this 35 Sigma. I

I’m second guessing the Sony 35. I did not order it till last week. I was not convinced on announcement . I mean I could be waiting till June.

I’m trying to keep the lens weight <=13 oz. I had the 50/1.4 and realized I did not need anything that fast so f2 meets my needs. I am also considering the “old” FE 55/1.8 instead of the Sigma 65 since it is 4 oz less, smaller and might be a better gap from 35. I expect the 35 to be on the body a lot when walking around for travel etc and the difference in size and weight will be enjoyable. Nice to have some options. I wish the bokeh was nicer on the new 50G but still a possibility if I go with a 50ish.

Images from the A7c will be viewed on iPhone/iPad/iMac/Apple TV and nobody but me will care about corners, bokeh, etc 🤪

Good move. I like the 35i so much I haven’t bothered with the GM myself.

Well not crazy about the costs for one and the work load is down. It also made my kit bigger than I want to at this point. Also read Fred’s thread on it and I really liked the images. So I’m still very much a small kit with Laowa 14, Sony 20, sigma 35/65. The Batis won’t travel much with me anyway. I’ll wait til Monday than I’ll cancel. But the Sony lenses announced I lost all interest when I saw that distortion. I do not want to force feed distortion correction.

One other thing Fred mentioned to me this 35 is wider than normal. Which makes it a one lens run out the door setup. I like that

I got the Sigma 35 i a week ago and have been liking it so much that I have ordered the other three in the i series. Got the 45 last evening (worried about how the AF will be, but we'll see--there is a new firmware update addressing some aspects of AF just out for this lens) and the 65 and 24 arrive today (just got my orders in before B&H stopped processing for Passover).

I like the rendering of the 35 very much and I hope the others will be as appealing. I find it beautiful but not overdone. Colors and contrast are lovely and have depth and shapeliness.

And I very much appreciate the size of these lenses. They fit the Sony bodies very nicely. I think they all would work well for candid, travel, and street shooting where you don't want a big lens catching everyone's eye and making them self-aware.

I still have orders in for the 35GM and the 50GM. But I am thinking about canceling them, at least for now. I'll need to see how these perform in use, especially AF, both eye and tracking--those are important components of a lens for me--getting sharp pictures in fluid, unposed human settings.

Here's hoping!!!

Hey Chiron - how are you finding AF on the 35i since that’s critical for you per comments above? I would like to move from the FE 35/1.8 to the Sigma for better rendering but I rely on the unflappable AF of the FE as it is my family (kids in motion) lens for stills and video. Thx in advance for any input!

I have found the 35i AF to be quick, not fast.

When using Animal Eye-AF on AF-C while shooting "tracking: expanded flexable spot" and "wide" WO on an a7c with "tracking sensitivity at 1 (locked on)" with "aperture drive in AF: focus priority" (the combo of settings I have found best) with high burst rate in overcast to sunny light at normal shooting distances (3-20 feet), I can track my dogs when they are walking with ease, trotting and a light jog. But once they start running at a moderate jog or better clip towards me, the lens can't keep up. I also notice it takes a half-second to "think" sometimes before starting to nail the first focal instant. I'd say you're going to be pretty happy with it, unless you want fast erratic running kids or animals with Eye-AF.

Aside from the smooth rendering and pleasant size and great ergo, I find the axial CA correction excellent. Shooting high contrast subjects is just simply a non-issue. It's far head of the RX1, ZA 35, FE 35 and Samy 35 in for axial.

Not sure if you've all seen--but this might help you understand how cleanly this renders in addition to Fred's testing.

Nehemiah has a better answer on this than I could give--I don't have enough experience with it yet. My hunch is that it's AF will be completely fine for most purposes, but the Sony 35 was, in my experience, a demon for focusing.

I thought Sony made it's focusing algorithms available to thrid party makers? Sigma has seemed to have some trouble getting some of their lenses to focus as one would wish on Sony bodies.

That's correct in my experience Chiron--the FE 35 and 55 ZA are the quickest focusing primes I have found. They passed every stress test I put them through. In usage, I found the Samy 35 between the 35i and FE 35 (again, WO, AF-C, eye-AF, tracking, high burst rates).

Great work on the comparisons. You've created a classic thread. Now to update with the 35 GM and then to do the 50/55mm lenses when the GM is here. Then the 40/45 lenses.

Then the 85's!
