Agreed. Just wondering how exactly it became unfashionable to like Sony (colors) in the Sony forum here.
I don’t think it’s become unfashionable. Over the past three years I’ve used the a7r iii, a7r iv and a9ii. I can get good results in terms of color but it takes me longer to work with the files in post. Only when I started using the Leica SL2, SL2-as and then when trying the R5 did I realize that I didn’t have to spend so much time in post working on getting colors to where I like the results. The colors in my final images, especially skin tones, are usually not “Sony colors” anymore. I’m not sure how many images posted on our forum have no adjustments to color.
Sensor wise, the Sony still gives me the most latitude in adjusting shadows, highlights and exposure. The SL2-S comes close and the colors, without adjustment, are great but the AF is dismal in comparison to the Sony.
Overall saturation is easy to deal with if the base hues are accurate. Color cast requires more work. I’m curious to hear more about Luis’ experience and results with Cobalt. I imagine there may be a video on it in the near future.
I would also like to know which of the above photos had the most true to life colors.

Honestly, I just tested it now and decided to do a quick comparison for the forum. I need to start playing with them using different kinds of images to get a better idea of how I like them for my use.
I will be updating with my thoughts later today.
Just curious if you have any further thoughts on the Cobalt profiles

Thank, that's quite an interesting and useful comparison, which somehow confirms one suspect of mine: recent Sony cameras have pretty good JPEGs colors even for skintones, while the dreaded "yellow effect" is mostly due to the bad work of some of the most popular RAW converters' dedicated profiles, (guess the LR one speaks volume in that regard, is by far the worse IMHO, C1 being much better).
I've know of this Cobalt profiles for quite some time, as in Italian photography forums thay have become quite popular, but since I use Affinity Photo, there is unfortunately no easy way to apply them so I gave up (tried converting them into a LUT, with not much luck).
For my personal tastes, I find the Sony OOC and C1 Default profiles the most pleasing to my eyes, with the Sony one with the reds of the sweater just a tad oversaturated (but easily fixable)....Show more →
Yes, this! I honestly love the way my A7RIV renders JPEGs and movies, these recent bodies have really stepped up their JPEG color science, but I dread the moment I hit develop in LR. Such a drag just to get it back to even the point where it's comparable to the JPEG. I think I may need to switch to C1 or something.

Thanks, Luis. Hopefully they'll have profiles for the alpha 1 relatively quickly.
I'm very much looking forward to the Leica Mono CCD profile as well. I am getting rid of my Leica SL2/SL2-S system for the Alpha 1 and even with the color Leica sensor the monochrome conversions have a unique look to them that seems to be close to the Cobalt Leica Mono CCD profile.
Any chance you've done a video on the Infinite modules that were in the video? I have actually never seen them before and am wondering what they do.

I agree, that CCD profile looks great and I can't wait to check it out.
I have not done a review on Infinite tools plugins but I should probably do one as well.
Thank you!!

Thanks, Luis. Excellent video. For as much as I really am pleased with the output from my A7RIV, the Adobe profiles for it really don't do much for me. As you and others have said, that CCD profile looks great and I also will think hard about the Z7 profile...it got me nostalgic for my old Z7 files.

You are very welcome and thanks for the kind words!
Yeah that CCD is indeed awesome looking. Cant wait to get my hands on it for sure. I also have the Z7 profile in mind and want to do more comparisons with it as a quick turnout option.

But then why don't we call them "Adobe colors" or "C1 colors"?
Perhaps because these raw converters are better with canon or nikon? So it's not sony that is causing the problem but you'll only see it with sony so that people call the problem by the name 'sony'. Not fair of course but it would be easy for Sony to fix the problem by collaboration. They have collaboration with Capture One though which is weird, you would have thought it would have improved the C1 colour unless it's simply the design choices of C1 who disagree with Sony as to what is the best representation of it's sensor output. I've always found the C1 color profiles to be a drop over red in the faces.
Personally I prefer sony to canon colours and I can ICC profile cameras so you can't tell the difference in any case but perhaps the above is why we hear about 'sony' colours.

The Z7 Cobalt profile looks really pleasing to me, curious. I wouldn't really say that I normally enjoy Nikon colors, but there's something about that profile that works very well in your examples.

Great video. cobalt seems to do a nice job with homogenization between brads.
I own the Cobalt DCP profiles for the A9 (with Fuji and Canon simulation), and the Cobalt ICC profiles for A7III and A9.
After using this profiles a little bit more, I realized that I really don't like their tungsten profile... As a consequence, I also don't like their DCP profile, because it's a dual illuminant and reproduces indoor what I don't like in the ICC tungsten profile. Their profiles tries too much to eliminate yellow and orange, to blush everything. Maybe it's considered pleasing, but I prefer to desaturate or shift myself the tints if I have to.
A few examples, in mixed lighting :
Cobalt tungsten (I don't like):
Cobalt standard daylight (way better) :
Generic C1 (in fact not that bad in that case ) :
My personal profile (too yellow and punchy in that case) :
My personal profile is the most neutral profile for D50 or D55 illuminant that I could get from Lumariver, even at the expense of linearity. There is no pleasing correction applied. Maybe the white balance is a little bit too much on the yellow side.
The Cobalt neutrals shows less of this shift in skintones but I think that it's still there...
I don't in on the Cobalt ICC profile this desaturation that I sometimes see in the DCP profiles in your samples.

I was never a Nikon colors guy either so I would like to test it on other sessions just in case, but it surely looks good on that sample I did so it got me curious.

In daylight I find Sony colors very pleasing. When it's completely overcast or in artificial lighting I often hate it (For portraits), so I tend to edit. I've gone through a few of C1's default profiles mostly sticking to Canon. I found the one I tend to use the most is the Canon 20D. I finally looked it up out of interest because I had no knowledge of this camera. Turns out it was released in 2003. Well, there you have it...personal preference I suppose.
My other favorite profiles are D700, Olympus E-P5 and Fuji X-T10. My all time favorite color for portraits still comes from Olympus cameras. I rarely have ever tweeked then in PP.

Thanks for the video and files Luis! Nice work.
I also think the Z7 profile looks very pleasing, at least with that one example.
Interesting profiles for sure (but I also find them to be quite expensive).

I really want to get more samples of that Z7 in other work I have done to see how it fits other sessions for sure.
Yeah I get you about pricing but the way I see it, if I can add something to my tools that is going to help me get to my end results faster, it will easily pay for itself in time savings in little time
