I think this portrait is fine. The background is not that distracting but rather i think it's a good composition. Sometimes, it's interesting to see both the subject and it's surrounding to have a more story-telling effect
I think only that bright little spot in front of her tummy is a bit distracting...

I still sorta don't understand the whole saturated look when DSLR come out flat and dreary. Why not just make them slightly contrasty and saturated in the first place?

Richard, I don't know if you have the CP turned the right way around. The sky looks a bit off with the dark areas and then light. It's been a while since I've used one....
I like both very much. The only thing is that the rocks in the first pic are a bit overexposed... With the CPL effect in the sky, it's not that bad. If the sun is lower in the sky, you got to watch out. These two are fine for me, I like the clouds. Thanks for posting...now, the mood is back
