If you are doing just motorsports, the 100-400 will fit the bill nicely. The problem with the 200 range is that it doesn't get you that much more unless you were right there are the track. I was at turn 1 on top of the stands (inside of turn 1) with a 70-200IS and even then, it's just acceptable to get the whole car into view.
Like so @ 200mm
If you were standing a bit further away, then you'd have to start cropping.
hi guys, 1 more day to go in hk!! coming back to sydney tomorrow. You guys did quite well with this thread, more than 1k posts!
Photography was good in china, but only managed 4Gb of crw. Only had the 16-35 when i was in china. Perth and Hk was okay, got some reasonable evening skyline shots. The night view of hk from the peak was great. Plenty of amateur photographers up there with their nikons (hk people seem to like nikon!?) taking photos for HK$30 (A$5) 8x12 prints i think.

Yes, Smelly, a lot of people told me the opposite
Also, I think I will definitely need 512 but not sure about 1GB
You'll need at least 512 if u're running xp. 1Gb will help if u process large files esp with loads of PS layers. I have 756mb with a 1.4Ghz Pentium M processor, it seems to have no problems handling a few 100Mb files opened at the same time.
Hey hey!! Enjoy HK man! I missed out on going back when Virgin had that good deal.
Zane, the dust thing didn't change. I've compared it before and after and it's still just as bad if not got better. Well, I did give it a blow with the foot pump just then.

Thanks Richard. Yes I am running XP, so I think i will need 512, I never open files as large as 100MB. I still don't know much about layers yet, may be what I need now is a PS tutorial...
Yeah, I asked Nicole about moving to Leura in the Blue Mountains when we can afford it...where we can see the mountains in the backyard, have a glass roof for the rumpus room...she wants to be able to get to work within half an hour train...so keep dreaming
As pretty as the Blue Mountains are, I would not live there because it takes forever to get to the city and the M4 isn't that better in peak hour. I go over it every morning and every morning, it's always banked well back. No thanks... rather be living near a beach if I had my choice.
I think I got a function to go to on the Monday so I'm out.
I was out walking in the city hoping to get some night shots. Got my camera, lenses, cable release, tripod...basically everything I need except those quick release plates, so the camera couldn't be mounted on the tripod. I was trying to do everything handheld but light condition didn't allow me. I was about to pack up and go but suddenly I've decided to go BLURRRRR....
