I don't have enough gear to warrant a big bag at this stage, but i guess it will just take time..... it has taken me less than 4 months to go from no camera skill at all to a digital slr and soon L lens. It's an addiction.

you remind me of a friend of mine, in a few months, he went from no camera to 20D, 10-22, 24-70, 70-200, 50 1.8 then 50 1.4, 1.4x TC, sold 17-40
I'll probably get a toploader first and then a backpack for dedicated photo outings. The toploader on it's own would still be useful for semi-photo trips.
i think that's the old price for 550 when it was available and for any available stock. i will go for a 580ex for sure. I really love the ergonomics of it!! Got it last nite finally!!

Do you bring your laptop with you all the time as well Ed?
Not all the time, but sometimes I do. It beats carrying 2 bags around.
btw, Zane's advice is right on the money - get a bigger bag than you think you'll need. Otherwise there will be many, many bags (of increasing size) in your closet.
The 550ex has been discontinued. The 580ex was released at a lower price point, so yes it's slightly better and a lot cheaper. btw, the EOS 30v was cheaper than the 30 as well.
