let say you do lighting or portraiture at ACP, you also get backdrops, lights, models, stylists, a good instructor who gives good instructions, weekly assignments, group discussion of weekly assignments, useful notes, meet good people, good learning atmosphere, end of term student exhibitions, hiring of studio, darkroom for cheap etc etc, all for $23 per hour...I think that's pretty good value....
I m not saying you dont get good advice from Mick ok...
I like the first grid iron shot there Phat .Nicely isolated and good bokeh .Lot of noise in those last two .The composition of the last one is great " Hut hut hut " .
I'm taking a wild stab in the dark and guess that the guys in black are the raiders and last time i vaguely heard anything about grid iron in Australia the raiders were the Bondi Raiders ??
Thats from my very very dodgey memory though .
Damn . I wish i'd seen this earlier . I was out there yesterday too . Wall to wall action after friday was washed out . I'm actually a bit disconsolate at shooting out there as far as the drag strip itself . Don't laugh .I think i'm losing my mind .
I think without a 300 or 400 unless your on the inside in the press area 200 is just to short to get anything front on . I find the pits a lot more interesting .And wandered right up around behind the start line to as far as you can get without the sexy fluro green jacket . Quite a good spot to get the drivers just before there run . I've seen Brett Stevens run a million times but to see his face up close just before he's about to shoot down the quarter in 6 odd seconds was pretty cool .
Wow, great shot. The concentration in his eyes are amazing.
I had my 200mm f2.8 and actually found it too long when in the grandstands. The 50mm+ was all you needed if you stood in the grandstand corner just where they start the burnouts. Shooting at night at these events from such a distance you need a fast lens and very high iso even for panning speeds.
These are my drag racing photos from Saturday night at the WSID
Thanks . I agree the 200 is cool for side on and panning .Great catch with the FC .
But for a more front on shot i'd like to get further down the track a bit and zoom in ,But like you say needing the fast lens at that length would be the killer at night .
