p.1 #1 · Backpack for camping and carrying camera gear
I'm planning on doing a two-night camping trip to photograph wild horses here in North Carolina. I need a backpack that can carry two cameras, 500mm F4G, 24-70mm 2.8, a tripod as well as one-man tent, sleeping bag, and food. I'm thinking the Gregory Baltoro 75 which is on sale right now at REI. Thoughts?

If you can try the packs out, I encourage you to do so. All of us have different bodies and while I did not enjoy my Baltoro, lots of people apparently do. I found that the Baltoro hurt my hips. Both loaded similarly, my Osprey Stratos 36 carried 40lbs way better than my Baltoro 85. And this wasn't some 5min test in a store. I owned both at one point and I tested both (on couple of occasions) on an hour walk on an inclined treadmill.
There are some real hikers here (not me) and I'm sure they'll chime in.

Gregory backpacks are great, but I feel like they shine more for lighter loads and as daypacks. For the heavier stuff, look into Osprey. They are pricier than Gregory's but are designed to carry much heavier loads and the anti-gravity frames are outstanding.
I have an Atmos and I carry about 60+ lbs of backpacking and camera gear whenever I go on my adventures. I hike to all of my locations and am typically ascending several thousand feet of elevation over the course of many many miles and I do not think I could do it without an Osprey.
Head to REI and see if you can try some on. You absolutely want to make sure your bag fits you before loading it up.

I'm also a fan of Osprey Packs and have used my Atmos 50 for hiking with camera gear, though only one body. Very comfortable and the poc,ets are fairly convenient for camera gear.

Another vote for the Osprey here, should be fine for a two-day photography hike. By the way, did you guys try some of these KUHL backpacks? I have two pairs of their pants and they showed really good in difficult hikes. Wanted to wait for some opinions on the backpacks first.

I have an Osprey and it is super comfortable to carry around and relatively cheap to purchase, but these top loading style bags are a huge PIA for getting gear you need while hiking or at camp.
I have friends with packs that are very modular that I get super jealous of. They have a way better set up for photography since they can easily find anything they need and they don't need to empty the entire pack to find one item that fell to the bottom. They are expensive, but this is the route I would go if I was looking for another pack again.
