This trip wasn't in my radar due to COVID restrictions, a friend of mine visited couple weeks ago told me it's safe to go and most hotels at Socorro are near empty, so I did a quick planning and drove (8 hours for me). He was right. This area is going through a drought now. When you drive south on route 1 from San Antonio to Bosque, the famous roosting ponds on the right side before visitor center was COMPLETELY dry; when I saw this, it gave me a sudden shock through my whole body! I was thinking, why I drove this far? But the Bosque management did a great job there by filling water in the North loop roosting areas; however, south loop was mostly dry. I also checked Bernado, and that area had decent amount of water, not sure that was filed by the management. I talked to few people who know the situations there, they were saying the work behind filling water was enormous, several pumps were operating continuously and also they were diverting the spend water from farmers irrigation system to fill this area. The birds were there in December, but lot of them left to south later dec/early Jan. But they were back when was there (last weekend)
You got some great shots in spite of the water issues. I like the all, but I particularly like the first one.
Easily worth the long drive to get shots like these.
It's good to hear that Bosque management is doing what they can to deal with the water issue for the birds.

Thanks Dave, BDA management getting quite a bit of help from volunteers, otherwise this wouldn't be possible

So great to see these, Shibu! There are no really good BdA postings this season, until now. I love the environmental approach. Great work!
Thanks Bobby, it was little depressing to see Dry the roosting ponds north of visitor center without any birds or visitors! But inside the loop area was better, hopefully will be better next season
Shibu, kudos to you and your images! They are delightful and truly show what Bosque is about. I appreciated your giving me the heads up but being a married man (and being a grandfather) carries certain obligations during this pandemic. I may see you there next year though with the A1. Yes, that steak sauce .

Simply delightful I am glad COVID did not stop you for getting out and getting some great images for the rest of us Shibu!
The colors and all have caught me just right, wonderful creativity and low light work. Excellent!

Excellent images! We spent some time at Bernardo and Bosque around Thanksgiving and noticed how dry things were. They had just started flooding a field on the north loop just before we left. The Flight Deck pond was the main roosting area during most of our visit.

Thanks, it's still the flight deck area, other areas on north loop are not very accessible
