I noticed there's a thread for the R5 but none for the R6 so figured I'd start one myself

I just got the body a few days ago and haven't had a great amount of time to use it but so far I'm really enjoying it!

This is with the RF 85mm f/2

I love my R6. Been using it alongside my Sony A7R IV kit, but honestly, I've barely touched my Sony kit in the 3 months I've had the R6....I'm contemplating a full switch.

Some samples from the past few months:

Great shots and I actually made the full switch over from an A7III after nearly 3 years in Sony! Only thing I’ll miss is the zebra highlight warnings and the third party options.

This is what I'm struggling with right now (switch to Canon or return to Sony)

Right now I only have the RX10 IV and looking to get back into mirrorless FF -- I've shot Sony A7rII, a7rIII, A7II but never really connected with the ergos.

I really like what I see from the R6 (except the lower MP) but at $2500, it just seems a bit steep vs. something like an A7 III.

I priced out an entire system including body, UWA zoom, 100-400ish zoom, 85 prime (using EDU discount from BH, which I can get) and the Sony setup is $2700 less than the Canon (granted I went for 12-24 f/4 vs. 2.8).

So I guess the question is -- Do I value the Canon ergos and operations to spend $2600 more for a comparable system?

I actually swapped over from the A7III myself after nearly 3 years of owing it and found a lot of advantages in the Canon R6 which were:

- A fully Articulating Screen (I do zero video but this is really useful for stills too)
Both card slots are UHS-II compared to my A7III which had one of two being UHS-I
- Both the rear screen and EVF are a higher resolution. I tried the Z6 EVF which is the same resolution and it was amazing. I also tried the R6 in store and was really happy with the quality of the EVF.
- Most newer Canon bodies have a bulb timer so you can set the exposure length even when over 30 seconds and not have to worry about a remote! This would have come in handy when I forgot my remote on my San Francisco trip and was limited to 30 second exposures.
- During timelapse mode, the camera can actually make it into a movie for you just like my Osmo Pocket which is a big plus for me.
- The A7III never got the real time tracking update so the 1DX3 level of tracking and 20fps is obviously a huge jump up in performance too.
-The shutter closes when changing lenses to prevent dust which I know some people are mixed on but I personally think this is a great feature.
- The R6 (and most new Canon bodies( have a fully functional touch screen which is really quick to use when changing settings.
- Canon have a better app that allows you to AF and release the shutter independently unlike the Sony one.

Some of these will likely be fixed with an A7IV but all rumors seem to indicate it will be going up market and be around $2500USD which means it will be a lot higher here too and I always intended on switching back to Canon. As someone who doesn’t shoot any video, I would say the main advantages to the Sony are:

- Excellent third party options. Even if third parties do make RF lenses they won’t be at the same level as RF lenses since Canon don’t open their mount
- No zebra stripes when shooting stills to warn of blown highlights. This should be something they can add as a firmware update but who knows if they will.

Otherwise I absolutely love my R6 and I feel there’s no loss in terms of DR and 20MP is honestly more than enough.

Yeah some of these reasons basically mirror my thoughts for getting the R6 over the A73. Thanks for the breakdown. I forgot about the remote app, which is appallingly bad on Sony.

No problem and the more I use the R6 the more I'm happy with it. The Canon app seems to really mirror what you see and can do in Live View. The touch screens are also amazing on the Canon too.

Fully agree with the sentiment. I’m surprised I’m too thinking about a complete switch. 😀 good times.

Have had the r6 a few days now. Nothing really specific I wanna do right now so here is my dog. Coming from the 6d m2 the focus system is incredibly easy to use and get it exactly where you want it. I'm still trying to figure this thing out but so far it seams to be sooo easy. These samples are easy ones but the times when it is a pain to try and get good focus on her when she doesn't coooerate5 is a non issue on this body.

If the focus is not to far off to start, it will acquire well, albeit a bit slower than without the extender and sometimes with less confidence. Eye AF worked fine on multiple occasions. With busy backgrounds, having double back button focus set up helped as I was starting with spot, and then moving over to eye. The combo will hunt if things are way off, even for birds against a clear sky. I’ve had this lens since it was introduced, but used it predominantly without the extender on APS-C and FF mirrored bodies. It performed okay with my M50, and better still on the R6. Understandably, there are benefits and compromises with the combo.

Thanks for that! Do you find it more accurate with just the adapter and no teleconverter?
