Yes it is. But watch out if you decide to go there. There was maybe 7 bears very near the trail to the cone. I was a bit spooked out to be honest. Black bears are small but brown aren't and they were feeding just right next to the trail.
Thanks for the warning! My goal is to (one day) shoot the dunes behind cinder cone at sunrise. Hard to get some non-family time even though Lassen is only 1.5 hours from me.

That's exactly what I wanted to do. But hiking along there before sunrise, and climbing the cone won't be as easy (or safe) as it seems. You have to do this at night and with those bears running around? It would have to be a group of people....
Very lovely shots. I was trying to figure out which one was from Lassen because I grew up around there and then I figured out it was #6 even though it's not really a fall foliage photo. I've seen a lot of bears but not six in one place. They must be getting ready to go into their winter dens and with the lava tubes all over the place out there, they probably can find a lot of dens quite easily. This time of year, the yellow jackets also swarm, was that a big problem this year?
Beautiful images, as always. I especially like the first three images, with the second image standing out to me. Image two is magical! Thanks so much for sharing these, Gregg.
