Wonderful shots, Ari.
Did you crop at all? I find that I have better luck using the A7Riv, with no TC, cropping in post, only because I don't think I can track that well at 1200mm !!

Nice selection of the frames here. 3rd one stands out with the wing and talon position and bird is looking straight down on a target and in full flow of flight.
I think 3rd last image should be last image of this sequence due to timing of the frames and by that time bird was turning away from you as well.
Bird taking off sequences normally starts with a perch but I understand that could be man made structure (or other reason) that you don't want to post.
thank you
the sequence is correct, the bird hasn't turned away and it is angled towards us but it was going up and down (kestrels don't fly on a straight line) hence the different BG. As for the perch, the sequence did not start with the kestrel perched, he was perched pretty high up so I waited for him to dive. the first frame captured is the first frame posted above. It is impossible to get close to a kestrel perched on a low perch in my area so I don't have any perched frames from this location,

Thanks much for the kind words!
These are about 50%-60% crop. To be honest The A7R iV will not get any of these frames, before you can comprehend what happened in the laggy finder the bird is gone and with the rolling shutter the wings will be liquified, if you get one at all at only 10 fps. There will be literally 0 keepers with the A7R4 in this location, I know this because I did try it. It took me 30 minuted to return that camera but it works for perched birds and non challenging stuff. I wouldn't be shooting with Sony if it weren't for the A9 II I look forward to the next A7 camera where [hopefully] these issues have been fixed

Unfortunately, fast BIF may not be for me. As soon as I put the 1.4 on my 600GM tracking them does not go well .
I know I should practice more, but when I put the A9 on the 600GM, I inevitably wish I had the A7Riv on it for some nicely perched bird chowing down on a bug!!
At least I can get good BIF for slower birds This one is cropped to 1975 x 1354. The advantage, in this case, is that I also have the larger image showing the whole flock of Grackles chasing the Owl, whereas they would have been cut out with the 1.4x or especially the 2x TC.
Don't get me wrong, I love your shots!! Just talking out loud to help decide whether to try the A9 and 1.4TC with the 600GM, again. Or even get the 2.0TC.

cool shot Kim, I know where you are coming from, it is certainly nice to have those extra pixels in certain conditions.... I had the D850 and liked the cropping ability when the light was good and there wasn't a whole lot of action.
