June bugs are the favorite food of burrowing owls. They catch these flying bugs mid-air by launching their powerful legs close to the prey with the claws in open position. And, then bingo! They grab the prey using the claw.
After catching the prey, they may carry it in their claw on the way back to their burrow to devour it or they transfer the prey to the beak and transport it home that way. This set is about the later behavior, and less often done from my experience in the last few years of monitoring and photographing them. The dark-colored wings of the bug were spread out, making the owl look like having a mustache, and yes, a fake mustache .
Thank you for stopping by and please feel free to leave any feedback,
Joshua

Fake mustache, indeed. Makes that owl look like a bad guy cartoon character.
Great set, Joshua.
Thank you very much, Fred! Yes, it reminds me of something like that especially after you mentioned it.

Stunning set i like it, sharp, and very beautiful positions at the of the sequence.
Gerard, thank you very much! There is not much else going on right now that I know of. I will to make it do with what we have around here. And the owl's population is sadly low. There was just one owl today. There were two in the same burrow just a few days ago.
