So I just came back today from my quick trip to White Mountains, CA. The Neowise comet is still up, and the Moon relatively dim (crescent at only about 23%) so I shot some Bristlecone Pines with both, the Moon and comet (and both at the same time as both appeared from about 10pm to 11pm.).
I really didn't have much time to scout the area and look for possibly best looking trees up there, and waking around 11200 feet up isn't exactly an easy task, so I shot what I quickly found and knew about from my previous trips.
At first, I was somewhat skeptical about the shootout.
The place was covered with clouds (partially but where the comet was the sky was clogged), but they all faded away after sunset and completely after moonset, which happened at 11pm (probably earlier up at this altitude), so I finally was able to see the comet.
For some of these shots, specially the comet alone, I used my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 S lens. It's the sharpest lens there is for the Nikon Z mount. I did take 12 shots and combined them all in PS, into the final image you see here. Note the blue part of the tail. I saw an image of this comet with a blue tail before (by some astrophotographer) but I couldn't get it blue. I thought the image was kind of fake, but last night (and with this sharp lens), it came out blue.....
I agree with the others, simply a stunning set! I'm jealous, as I love the Eastern Sierras but haven't been able to get out to shoot there lately. Thanks for the inspiration, I hope to hit the road soon.
Superb set, Greg. I loved all of them and am having trouble finding out my fav among the lot. Keep up the good work
Love the subtle filler lighting, what did you use for it?
Oh man what a series. I think I saw your photos on 500px and I said to myself he's going to post soon on FM and he's going to win the featured thread award with those photos and I'm never going to win it. Sigh. Love seeing your work here and am grateful you post here to help artisans like me hopefully one day become an artist.

Oh man! I'm sorry about that. Let me know next time you want to post your shots, and win the featured thread award and I won't be posting anything....
