Hmm, I’d been holding off on getting a CFExpess card (just have been making do with SD‘s), but your situation has me thinking that I should get one just to make sure there is nothing with my camera, while it new and under warranty!

The buffer clearance is practically instant with no delay except for a 1 second break between the bursts.

Great to hear Bobby. Did you test the Delkin card before sending the camera in? If so, was it as bad as the Transcend card?

Did you happen to note what the files sizes were when you did your test? 400+ is excellent. The most I got with the same Delkin CFEx 128GB card at Full RAW in MS/EFCS @12FPS was 220. My files were usually mid 40s for MBs. I did note that changes to the file size made a huge difference in my numbers.
I did, and yes, it was just as bad as the Transcend card - I was only getting 75 frames before it stops - and have to wait a little over a minute for the images to write to the card!

No, I had deleted all the files. But I just took 1 shot of the same test subject and the file size is 52MB.

It is totally fine for stills. If you read back a number of pages in this thread you can find a number of tests I did with it.
I've never hit the buffer using the Transcend 256GB in real world shooting either in ES or MS. But I do shoot in CRAW so that pretty much eliminates hitting the buffer unless I really lay on the shutter

That's crazy...mine could never get close to that even with 45MB files. Maybe I need my back cover replaced
Heck I couldn't even get past 300 shots in CRAW in MS which were only ~22MB files.

Maybe my Delkin was with old FW. What is the date on the package of your Delkin Card? It is on the back near the serial number. Mine was 8/20 which seems a bit early to have the updated FW??

Oh I know - I use it, but don’t want to abuse it, I only use it if there is an issue with a purchase. It would be abusing the best return policy there is, if I bought and returned something I had no intention of keeping.
Will check on the date and get back to you tomorrow. It’s funny how I had wished that I could get the numbers that you got ... and now it’s the other way round!

Arbitrage, here are the numbers I got from my tests a month or so ago with the Delkin 128GB cards (two cards). These numbers are for full RAW, H+, MS, 30 seconds continuous shooting:
Card 1
Test 1: 311 photos @ 57.9MB. 17.58GB/30s, 600.2MB/sec.
Test 2: 315 @ 57.9MB. 17.81GB/30s, 608.0MB/sec.
Card 2
Test 1: 310 @ 58.9MB. 17.83GB/30s, 608.6MB/sec.
Test 2: 308 @ 58.9MB. 17.72GB/30s, 604.7MB/sec.
Note that these cards were manufactured in July of last year. I was informed by a Delkin Rep that there were some inaccuracies in that thessdreview.com story; including the inference that the newer firmware started in late August or early September (even some staff are misinformed about this). These July cards were in fact with the new firmware.
For cards manufactured in July, on the back, above the top right corner of the bar code, is a two letter code. If it is HM, it is the new firmware. I just received another Delkin 128GB card (a replacement). The bar code label has changed. Instead of MM/YY for date of manufacture, it is now MMDDYY and the location of the firmware code has changed too. It is now to the right of the date but the left of the bar code. My new card has an eight digit number immediately followed by HM. It is interesting to note that the bottom of this label says "Made in Taiwan", so maybe the labelling is different from that plant and ones from the US (if there are any made in the US) have the other label I described.
I will be testing the new card (hopefully today) and will post the results.

Thanks for the further info. I guess my August date that as you pointed out earlier had the HM label was with latest FW. I'm just surprised at how many more shots Bobby can get with his card. I have no complaints with the performance I got on the Delkin but it was so close to the Transcend that it wasn't worth keeping for me.
Would you be able to do a test like Bobby and I did where you just shoot until the FPS pauses? MS/EFCS at 12FPS in full RAW would be most interesting to me. I assume that if you were getting under 360 shots in 30s at 12FPS then yours must stutter sooner than the 400+ Bobby is reporting.
I also wonder if there is any difference between MS and EFCS? All my tests were in EFCS (or ES). I never tried in MS.
I'm going to try your 30s test with my Transcend, aiming for a ~58MB file and see what happens. There was no doubt though that the Delkin was clearing its buffer at least twice as fast as my Transcend was.
Folks, there's a firmware update on the Angelbird card. And - a first - it's user-upgradeable, so long as you have Windows and an Angelbird card reader. I was able to successfully complete the upgrade this morning, and the startup delay is now completely gone (R5 firmware upgrades previously had limited the delay to once at the beginning, but that can still be annoying at times). It applies to the XT cards. More info here.
I will re-test the card for speed performance and republish the review of cards after.
I had a back-and-forth with the folks in Austria, and they indicated a Mac version will be out soon too.
Arbitrage, if I recall correctly I got my first (very brief) stutter at about 22 seconds. I do recall that it was extremely fast in clearing the buffer when I stopped after 30 seconds. I will try to quantify that with the next test.
Tiggy, even though I don't have any Angelbird cards, that is still great news, as it should put at least a bit of pressure on other manufacturers to provide the same user-upgrade feature.
8/20? Heck, my Delkin card that I bought from B&H is dated 7/20 HM.
So your external/back cover will have to be replaced!

Thanks for the update...so around 260 shots. Yes the Delkin was very fast to write out to card and turn off the red light.

I'm fairly sure mine is working to spec. Seems in line with a lot of other users on here. As others have reported the way the CFex cards manage their speeds/heat can make test results vary widely. Obviously your original issue was way out of the norm. Especially the length to clear the write light.
OK, so another interesting update. It turns out that a fellow over on DPReview's R forum (Tazz93) discovered that whether the EVF versus the LCD panel is operating determines how fast the cache gets cleared for CFexpress cards.
I came very, very close to not testing this, as it's just too insane to be true. But, after testing, yeah it is. The difference is pretty huge, too. 4.3 seconds to clear my Angelbird card with the LCD, and just under 20 seconds to clear it using the EVF.
This means that when you're mashing the shutter button and you've run out of cache, the fact that you're face is sitting there in front of the EVF is the primary impediment to the data clearing.
It also might explain why some people got very different results in testing.
OK. Here are the test results from the new Delkin 128GB CFe card I just received. Same test process as I outlined on page 13 of this thread. To summarize key points, freshly charged battery (last night), card low-level reformat before each test. MS, FF, H+, FL 400mm, focused and then set to MF, 30 second continuous shooting. Used a trigger and iphone timer to be as accurate as possible. Two tests set to RAW and two tests set to CRAW. All shot at 1/800 sec. Unfortunately, I didn't reset my aperture so that and ISO are different between the two sets and are specified.
RAW - 5.6, 6400 ISO (also, EC was at +1/3):
Test 1: 316 photos @ 60.9MB. 18.79GB/30s, 641.5MB/sec.
Test 2: 318 photos @ 60.9MB. 18.91GB/30s, 645.5MB/sec.
Battery now at 94%.
Other observations: first stutter at 12 seconds shooting. It took about 2.5 seconds for buffer to clear once I stopped shooting.
CRAW - 4.5, 2500 ISO
Test 1: 339 photos @ 29.5MB. 9.77GB/30s, 333.4MB/sec
Test 2: 335 photos @ 29.5MB. 9.65GB/30s, 329.4MB/sec.
Battery now at 91%.
Other observations: first stutter at 20 and 21 seconds shooting respectively. It took about 2.5 to 3 seconds for buffer to clear once I stopped shooting.
General observations: Not really any different than most of my other tests with the Delkin 128. Really bizarre how the card seems constrained more by the number of files written than the actual amount being written. Apparently whatever is causing this situation has not changed between July and January.
