Got into the water a bit, unintentionally, on this shot. Also lost a lens cap to the river. I don't leave trash behind in nature, but after 20 minutes I gave up the search on trying to find it. Hopefully it travels down the river and someone is able to fish it out.
Anyways, hope you guys enjoy this one, it's my favorite image I've taken of the falls.
Burney Falls in Burney, California.
f/22, 0.7 seconds, ISO 50 @ 27mm
Fantastic composition. Feels really well balanced to me. Curious - did you blow the highlights in the waterfall? I know I've done it many times photographing a waterfall - meaning I can't recover any detail in the whitewater. Not a big deal since white water is white after all

No blown highlights, though it is close. When editing it, I had to be careful about that. I underexposed the shot when I took it, so it just had to watch it during my editing.

Here's the zoomed in image with the exposure brought down.
Beatiful shot and post processing. I've been living in Los Angeles since 1987 but have never heard of Burney. It's gotta be somewhere up North (or North East) area of CA. Googled it and I'm right. The farthest I've driven to is Truckee. This state is too darn big to explore.
I you didn't get wet trying to retrieve your lens cap in the water the mist will wet ya. When the lighting isn't ideal it is best to crop out the top of the falls as you did, otherwise you get a white sky (especially in the p.m.)

Thanks! Haha, for sure. I spend a week in the Eastern Sierra every year and there's always something more.

Haha, for sure, that mist is insane! I usually try to go when the snow melt isn't affecting it as I get much better colors in the water. And yes, I hate that white sky!

Beautiful shot. Really nice rays of light coming in through the top-center.

Nice angle, it's not one you see much for this waterfall.
I agree!
The angle provides more depth to the image compared to the usual straight shot. The creek makes a much better lead into the frame. Beautifully executed shot.

Nice capture! My family (mom, dad, and four younger brothers) spent a couple of weeks at Burney Falls campground for about 4 or 5 summers in a row starting about 1961. I was about 9 years old. I have fond memories of fishing on the river above the falls. Nearly fell into the river after I hooked (and lost) a big trout about 50 feet from the edge of the falls. Glad I didn't!
