Yes I sent back the sony 24-70 2.8 gm lens just said I wasn't happy with it. Took bit over a week to get the actual money back, they are kinda slow on that. Very happy I kept the sigma I got from B&H that was the better copy.

I am in a similar place to you. I have a nice copy of the Sony 24-105, but keep pondering the 24-70 DG DN hoping it would be an upgrade for landscape IQ.

Rent one or buy one and compare. Return if you don't like I really do like the infinity rendering of the sigma. Never thought I'd like a zoom so much until I got to use it.

In my humble opinion the newest Sigma 24-70 f2.8 dg DN auto focuses just as good and as fast as the Sony gmaster. I’ve had zero issues with missing a moment as a wedding photographer!!

I had the GM for a couple years, then left Sony, when I came back I bought the Sigma. To me it's better than the GM. It's smaller, lighter and sharper. I liked the GM and used it a lot. but when I came back to Sony I wanted to try some of the new Sigma glass I heard about, including this one and the 14-24. It's as good or better for 1/2 the price, so....I'm in.
I wouldn't hesitate to tell someone that can afford either, to get the Sigma.

If you are willing to carry around a standard 24-70/2.8 - which are heavy lenses no matter the manufacturer - I feel the Sigma won't disappoint. I don't take it out so much because of its size and limited focal length, but when I do I am never disappointed in the results.

With a newborn on the way, I am leaving behind the world of Rx1 travel photography to get a big boy camera (thinking a7r ii or iii). Is the difference in AF actually all that significant between the Sony and the Sigma? Would be nice to save a chunk of change going with the Sigma.

A lot of love for the Sigma on this thread! I've been on the market for the Sigma for some time but have never really seen the price drop. By chance I just came across a used, good condition Sony GM for the same UK retail price as a brand new Sigma, so I just couldn't pass up the opportunity.
I'm intending to use it to replace another Sigma, the 45/2.8 (!), which I love for the handling and rendering but the AF-C/Eye AF gives me increasing grief as both my boys become increasingly mobile). I'll let you know how that works out.

The Sigma 24-70 is just as good, but an other good option is their 28-70, I sold my GM and got a Tamron 28-75 because I find myself using Zooms less, on problem with Sigma is they Zoom the same way as Canon, so if you have a Sony 70-200 GM or a Tamron 70-180 your lenses will be zoom the wrong way...
I really do like the infinity rendering of the sigma. Never thought I'd like a zoom so much until I got to use it.
