These are from a trip to South America that was cut short by the closing of the borders in mid March.
Easter Island is a tiny island province of Chile that is 5 hours by plane from Santiago.
Most of the inhabitants live in the southwestern corner and being 2000 miles away from the mainland it has some spectacular dark skies. Unfortunately it was rainy and cloudy most of the time my wife and I were there but the last night and morning it cleared. I definitely recommend renting a car while you are there.
John while all these are exceptional, #1 is right out of Ancient Aliens!! Well done indeed!!
A visit to a place seldom seen here on FM! Thanks for the trip!!
Dan
Beautiful shots! I would go back there in a heartbeat! Was there in Jan. 2016. Sadly it was only 3 days. At least I had my 58th birthday at Te Mona!! And it was cloudy at night also for most of my time there.

Thank you, yes it is a beautiful place but I think you only need three days there.

Thank you, ahu tangariki has the most majestic setting and the moai are huge (like 20 ft high).
