Any one tried this lens?

NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR

At $349.95 looks appealing if the photo quality is good.

It's light. It's got a 'plastic' mount. It's not weather-sealed. It's relatively slow. It lacks the high-end coatings.

But it is absurdly easy to carry (for a 75-375mm equiv lens) and optically sharp (and probably well corrected in software but who cares?) and capable of producing very good images.

Very nice images.

I think you put it in a very clear way.

I bought it for travel so it won’t get use anytime soon. Had a trip to Portugal booked for next month but....

I did test it on a cloudy day and photographed a building across the Detroit river from the Canadian side as a test. It was the old Detroit train station and was under renovation. When I zoomed in I could clearly see a worker tethered to a suspended scaffold and could easily read the sign of the construction company beside him. This was more than a mile away so I was quite impressed.

planning to subscribe to buy-sell after having some collection.

The z7 is my first camera since the canon AE-1 I bought after graduation from college more than 35 years ago

Sorry to bump an old thread but I was wondering if anybody is using this 50-250 on a Z6 in crop mode?

I'd like to have a telephoto for occasional (and, to be clear, non-professional) landscape/cityscape use, and frankly the 70-200 f2.8 frequently gets left at home due to weight. I know it'd make more sense on a Z7/Z7II because of the additional MP, but just wondered if anybody's tried it and what their experiences have been.

You end up with about a 10.3mpx file which is fine for really most any digital display and even relatively large prints. You might consider the Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E VR AF-P? A bit larger and it does require the FTZ but provides the option of FX or DX images.

Thanks, this is a good idea. I've been looking around and it seems like the AF-P version of the 70-300 is the best move for someone in my position.

I think I might also consider just picking up the Z50 with the two-lens kit if I see a great price for it used. It'd solve this specific problem for only a few hundred bucks more than a 70-300 and would also give me a nice little travel/walking-around set-up for when I'm not necessarily planning to shoot and don't want to lug around the heavier glass.

Two good options. Thanks for the thought!

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'll second what Eric61 said: the Z50 two-lens kit is a great deal. I bought the Z50 in the single lens (16-50) kit and regret it. I should have spent a little more to get the two-lens kit; I'll be picking up a 50-250 soon.

I shoot Canon and the 55-250 has probably been the lens I've used most over the last decade. IS and STM versions. Glad nikon has one now. If the optics are similar to Canon like you'd expect should be excellent.

Traded a nice D7200 setup for the Z50 two-lens kit. Works for me - these are with the 50-250 cropped about 90%
