I worked in this area during college summers nearly 50 years ago as part of a bulldozer/dynamite/dragline crew demolishing the land and preparing it for coal strip-mining. Shortly after Peabody Coal Co. left the area, I spent some time planting saplings to help restore the area. It's good to see that nature has made a decent comeback, despite that scarring of the land that took place. The strip-mined scars have become a fish and wildlife preserve!
