Being at the right place and at the right time! Wonderful shots and series!
Thanks so much! Yes, that is the goal, right place/right time! Sometimes it actually works out as planned!

Terrific action set,

Agreed! I'd have been thrilled to catch a peregrine by itself, and I always love seeing purple gallinules...capturing both in the same image was a special sequence! Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks so much! It was one of those moments that happens so fast, when its over you are almost scared to check the images for fear you missed it...Luckily that was not the case!

What a story these shots tell. And the color on the gallinule is amazing.
Yeah, it was amazing to see it happen, just happy I can share them! And I agree, purple gallinules are absolutely stunning - few birds are as colorful!

Great action sequence! I really like the first image-beautiful background and what a menacing presence.

Thanks! Yeah, it was a treat to have him flying straight at me like that, and at a low enough altitude that the shore plants/trees could be the background... It's almost like he's flying under the radar so the prey doesn't see his silhouette against the sky and sound the alarm. Very impressive bird for sure.

Impressive work on your part Frank. That is some really great IF photography to track the Peregrine and get these results! Really an exciting event, Gallinule is so colorful.
Excellent and yes you also earned my vote
Karl
Thanks! It was one of those "hope all the practice paid off" kind of moments! (And I'm glad it did!) Yes they are, one of my favorite birds to see in FL. Not that it would have been any less amazing with some "boring" prey, but the color certainly adds to the interest of the photo!

Great shots. Nothing in those shots that indicates the prey was downed by the falcon though.
Thank you! You're right, these shots don't show it, but having seen this bird make a high speed pass in the same area just minutes earlier pointed to it having been already hit by the falcon. In addition, (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think Peregrines are known to scavenge prey? I suppose it could have stolen the gallinule from an eagle, (but I didn't see any that day) and it seemed more likely that the falcon was the hunter from the beginning. I'll be frequenting that spot now that I know it's Peregrine hunting grounds...hopefully I can capture the actual kill strike next time!

Which wetlands were you at? Orlando Wetlands (one of my favorites)?
Kim
Yes, Orlando Wetlands Park...one of my favorites as well! I hadn't seen a Peregrine Falcon there until this trip (despite visiting regularly for the last several years). Best part about getting out in nature is you never know what you will see! Thanks for the support!
