p.1 #1 · Hard daily routine prior to competition

This lady bodybuilder was about to enter a competition and she trained on a daily basis. While the training was tough but her meal plan was even tougher, at least for me . It consisted of 6X of grilled tilapia for 2 weeks and nothing else! I did the session Wednesday and the competition was the next Saturday. FYI, I was informed later that she won the second place.

I used a 36" soft box for this session but mixed with available light inside the gym. I did not particularly like the light quality there but it was hard to over power that with just a single soft box. For the first image, the soft box was fairly close to her to my right. There was some overhead light outside the frame but enough to create some separation over her shoulder. And that at her left elbow was from an open backdoor of the gym. Except for the first B&W image, the editing was minimal using LR.

Thank you for stopping by and I really appreciate your feedback,
Joshua

First....I really like the images Joshua! Very sharp, detailed, well defined. A compliment to you and her skills as a bodybuilder! The tonalities are excellent!

Now I can comment on diet for bodybuilders. It is ROUGH! But to keep their body fat ratios low, requires a discipline that most cannot follow. Lots of protein, little fat. That is hard!

Now tell her her exercise form is excellent!! Her arm curl positioning is dead on! And her arm is resting mid quad, is dead on also. Her lunges are perfect...quads are directly parallel to the floor and her plant foot is flat and her body frame is balanced! She looks great in the mirror! Bill Pearl would be proud of her!

Dan, thank you very much for your detailed feedback and for your kind words. I am not into bodybuilding but I will definitely pass on your praise to her. As far as the diet concerned, she considered that as a big challenge alright. The idea of eating the same meal, 6X a day for 2 weeks did get into her. I am sure she would stay away from that diet for a long time. Thanks again, Dan!

Joshua, she is dedicated to her sport! That is evident in #1 and they way she is viewing her form in the mirror. When I was a "gym-rat", not a negative word at all!, you could tell the most dedicated people to sculpting their bodies by the look in the mirror! 95% were looking at their face not how they are performing the exercise!

The diet is brutal! But if you compete in these contests, one knows what it takes to get there!! She does!!!

First pick is definitely my favorite. Love the sweat and the black and white really works out well. While the others are nice the B&W really stands out. Maybe because the composition is so much closer and more intimate. I wish you would down size it a bit. Kudos to her for winning second. She looks like a natural competitor without steroids. Hope she stays that way.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much for your kind words, Jeff! Yes, we did take a few of the “sweaty shots” at the very end of the session when she basically gave it all. You are correct, the B&W version is more powerful than the color one. It seems that the dimension here is too large for this forum since most folks attach smaller files. I will make the adjustment in the future. Thank you again.
