p.2 #3 · What keeps taking me back to the winter wonderland - Yellowstone.

It sure did Dave. Waited with the wolves for 6 hours in the snow with my Bay Area hiking boots :-) Yes it was stupid, but now I know better. So had my hand warmers in the boots to keep my feet from freezing. So many lessons on this last trip. On my first one, I learnt not to go off pavement in Lamar - that was a $400 lesson - having to be towed out of the snow bank :-) Wiser now than 3 years ago. Going by myself brought these adventures, worth every bit of what we go for.
Cold hands and feet are in large part the result of the body reducing circulation to these areas to converse heat. Adding more layers to the chest and long underwear for the legs along with rain-wind pants will make a great deal of difference.
4WD or AWD and snow type tires are important in that area. We end up driving to Yellowstone from Montery as there the car rental places in Bozeman do not have 4WD or AWD vehicles and they don't bother to put on snow tires.
Worth the effort to photograph the bison in the snow. Some of my favorite photos are of these amazing animals with the snow blowing over them. They have managed to survive despite the US Park Service and theh USDA that would like to "harvest" them and replace them with cattle.
