Oh stop it! You're killing me with these
What a freakin' cool set of images Geoff, and here I am without even a solo SEO image and you have these and these are incredible!!
At 20fps and so many good frames and you say this all happened in about a second? Mind blowing sequence Geoff, congrats and a vote for the set
Karl
Thanks Karl. Glad you liked the action despite the bland background. There were 24 frames in the sequence (16 posted here) so assuming the A9 was shooting at 20FPS (that is what it was set for) then it was just over a second. If someone had asked me I would have said a few seconds but I guess not...things happen fast....a little spray and pray was involved and the clipped wing tips in the first couple were the top of the frame as I raced to pan up to them.
Wow! Wow! Wowzer! What an absolutely crazy nice set Geoff! So many unique poses.
It's a good thing you didn't pass up this opportunity due to the sky.
Man, I would have gone nuts clicking on these guys putting on a show like that.

These are freakin' amazing Geoff!
The images remind of a battle scene from "Kill Bill." Bravo to you for keeping your $h!t together, I know I would have been paralyzed by the experience and action.

bruce
Thanks Bruce. I first witnessed a few of these interactions from too far away before this one happened barely close enough so I was ready!!

Great sequence, Geoff! Having 20fps makes a difference. Focus tracking is great! Nice work.

Wow!!! Amazing and so well done. I love the intensity in the eyes.
With these subjects and the action who even notices the sky.
Birdie
Thanks Birdie...I do love seeing all the weird poses and expressions on the faces of the owls.

This is so rare and so amazing! Great job, Geoff! YGMV!
Thanks Bobby. The day I took this I probably witnessed them go at each other 4-5 times. There were also a few Harrier/Owl interactions like this. They seem to like to "own" a small territory of the large field

Terrific action sequence! Never seen such owl behavior let alone someone actually capturing the entire sequence. I agree that 20fps is sometimes essential.
Dave
Thanks Dave...this is surely where 20FPS gives you more poses to choose from. I'm guessing this behaviour only happens as the numbers of owls per area gets to a certain level as they were doing this a number of times. I also witnessed them do this 2 years ago in a much smaller area where 3 owls were present. They also give a very funny "bark" sound at each other that can be heard from a long ways off.

This set is excellent! Can I ask a technical question? How do you keep both birds in focus? Do you focus on one then pray for the other, or? Whatever you are doing, it is working.
