^^^ For a 2X extender on a zoom lens, these are astounding. We are so often always looking & striving for the next best thing in terms of lenses (600 f/4 for example), but given the incredibly low cost of this lens, and the incredibly high cost of the 600 prime, I'm feeling very content with this lens bolted to the a9.

I agree. Very impressive shots in this thread. I’d have to assume the 1.4x is even better as far as IQ? I’ve been loving the 200-600 bare so far, but will definitely be trying one or both TC’s soon

Yes, that's always going to be the case, but the Sony 2X seems to be superior to the Canon, and certainly better than the Nikon, although the a9 is likely part of the equation too.

Yes, if you're often reach challenged, then they are great tools to have. I bought the 1.4 and 2X with the lens.
Wow this forum is such a treasure trove. I just got the A9II and have been a little afraid about missing out of the cropping capabilites of previous kit with the D850 and the 200-500. That kit would never work with any of the Nikons teleconverters.
But man! Wow. F13-F16 and still it gives these types of results. You guys must have some amazing camera skills to get these shots. Now i am gonna have to buy a couple of teleconverters!

I'd recommend just getting the 1.4 first. The 2x is a little unpredictable...yes it can get some decent results but it isn't all that consistent getting them and needs full sun to deal with the small apertures. I've stopped using the 2x on the 200-600. I use the 1.4 about 50% of the time. It works very well on A9.
