Terrific sequence! I always thought the owls used their beaks to catch bugs. Not so!
Thank you very much, Shirley! They always catch them with their claws and from time to time, the transfer the bugs into their beaks before carrying it back home. Some youngsters do it clumsily. Frankly, I enjoy capturing, almost comical images of those youngsters in their effort of to feed themselves now. They still scream and want to be fed when the adults come back from the hunt. But they wont get fed any more now. The adults are pretty much deadly and the results are predictable while those youngsters have quite a way to master the technique. I will post images of some blunder images of the juveniles later on.

Karl, thank you very much! I got lucky on that sequence because the action happened fairly close and it was perfect for the 600mm setting of the lens. Now, I got some help and it was discussed here in the lower half of this page: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1608589/9. It is a device that lets you follow the action though the sight and NOT through the viewfinder. I missed so many shots trying to follow actions through the tunnel vision of the viewfinder. On the first day I used that device last week and I got the images I posted above. Granted I was lucky based on the distance and lighting but without that device, I may have missed it. Hope this helps.
Thank you very much, palmor!

Stunning! Joshua. When I had the Nikon 500 f4 VR I bought the Olympics dot sight to help locate and track the targets but I didn't feel it helped much, most likely it was operator error. I sold it since then. Apparently it helped you.

Douglas, thank you very much! Yes, it helped me tremendously. Prior to this, I was able to get that kind of action sequence only once in the last 2 years of trying to do that. The action was far away, too and I didn’t bother posting the images from back then anywhere. I can follow the action using that device and let the camera/lens capture the images. But needless to say your camera/lens better be up to the task for that.
