Now is the CV 65 the better lens is really the question one would have to ask as that lens to me would be the changing of the style of look your after . Its a APO lens so sharpness does not back off so that lends itself to being more clinical in look. Now I loved the CV 65 and if you where primary a landscape type shooter than it maybe the better choice here. Actually it maybe the better choice of anything out there, its a brilliant lens. For me I may add the 110 so i have one rocket ship of a lens in my bag. I would use the 110 more for landscape with my 50 . 21

My real question to myself is I had the Leica Summarit 75 2.4 which i liked but got caught up in another lens purchase so i sold it. Is this better and to be honest I think the Leica was identical on Big Bronco. Here I get a faster lens for focusing to as Im going to shoot a lot of F2 but damn some of these 1.5 shots are really sharp. Im going to plan on keeping it and take it on my vacation and get some more shooting in

Here is what i like and you all know I'm a big lens whore so certain things stick out to me. Not sure what it is but right after the focused area whatever is behind it goes soft really fast. I mean the distance behind the focused part is very small. This is really nice as the bokeh jumps right in hard and fast. Looking at some of these images I posted and others its pretty obvious, kind of why I said Summilux. Obviously corrected better . The other thing immediately is color, this samples i took I did absolutely nothing to them and the color is jumping off the screen. The other is tonal range separation the transition zones are like butter. So the lens has some really nice qualities plus comments from others are on the same thought pattern as mine. If been around a lot of glass it may not be perfect technically but the damn look is just gorgeous.

Honestly its nice to have one or two lenses in your bag that act like this and have one or two marvel of a sharp lens as well. Nice to have those options out there

It depends. The problem with the 75mm is that it sits right in the middle of the 65mm on one side, and a plethora of 85mm on the other side. No matter what rendering style you prefer, you'll find fierce competition, one side or the other. So the only outstanding qualities recommending it so far are size and nice construction and haptics, but once you'll have to also use an adapter, it pretty much goes away. Makes sense for L users but not so much adapted on E mount. A native one would make much more sense.

Sure would love it if it was native and yes it battles hard between 65/85 lenses as its the odd ball. I get that . Frankly one would be better owning the CV 40 to pair with this instead of the CV 50 which I have. Here is the other BIG problem none are small and lighter the CV 65 is a big lens . The Loxia 85 is a long lens and the ZM 85 is a F4 but gets its ass kicked by the Loxia 85. We really dont have a small 65,75,85 or even a 90. I would jump on a 90mm but finding one that's kick ass and small just don't exist. Now maybe some obscure brand like Olympus or Minolta but you on adapters as well.

Id call this lens the feel good lens. And it may not be for everyone for sure

If you don't mind some LoCA this one renders nice:

The Pentax 77 limited is a very nice lens, but in addition to LoCA magenta/green in front of and behind the focal plane, it also has quite a bit or purple fringing. So, no question the CV 75 f/1.5 is much better color corrected. The two lenses actually share a similar design, but the CV 75 f/1.5 has the modern APD and aspherical glass. The Pentax is also not much fun to focus as it is designed as an AF lens and the adapter is a lot bulkier than the adapter for the CV 75 f/1.5. These things together for me means I would only get the Pentax to save money. The Pentax isn't smaller when you consider that it needs a much bigger adapter. In use the focus is not nearly as nice, and optically it sure looks to be quite a bit behind the CV 75 f/1.5. It is still a nice lens, however.

I think this lens pairs wonderfully with the CV 40 f/1.2. It has a similar look. They both are fast. They both are a bit dreamy with some aberrations wide open (although the 40 has more). They both sharpen up and have way less aberrations at f/2 which is a great aperture to use for both. The both have nice bokeh (the 75's, however, looks better to me). Even as an M mount lens, I would say this lens seems to slightly outperform the CV 40 f/1.2 E mount and is at much the same level as the CV 50 f/1.2 E mount or perhaps a bit better. This is a fantastic trio of moderate focal length lenses. The hardest decision is which lenses to get and how to use them together.

Personally, I am getting the CV 50 f/1.2 in E mount and the 75 f/1.5 and I will wait awhile to see if it is offered in E mount. If it is I will get it in E mount, but even if it is not I will get it in M mount. It still looks exceptional as tested here. I do wish it was better for close up performance, but close up performance is not a strength of all of the lenses in this trio. One advantage of the M mount lens is that you can put it on a close focus adapter, stop it down to f/2 or f/2.4 and get quite decent close up performance. I also have the CV 65 f/2 (the one I got from you actually Guy) when I need optimal close focus performance.

That said, I will rarely carry these two lenses together. The CV 50 f/1.2 will be part of my fast lens kit, and although the 75 f/1.5 is pretty fast it actually fits in my small lens kit better and its super small size allows that.

Voigtlander has now given us a great set of ultra wide lenses: 10 f/5.6; 12 f/5.6; 15 f/4.5; 21 f/3.5; 21 f/1.4 and a wonderful set of moderate focal length lenses: 40 f/1.2; 50 f/1.2; 65 f/2 APO; and 75 f/1.5. Now I would like to see them make some lenses in the middle and a bit longer. I would love a 24/25 f/3.5; a 28 f/2; a 35 f/1.7; and I would love a 90 or 100 f/2; and a nice small 135 f/2.8. Voigtlander has really made some nice lenses lately and I hope they keep it up and really fill out this line of lenses.

Good summary and agree Steve. I have a small kit of the Contax g21, cv 35 1.7 and Sonnetar 73 1.5/Lux 75. But realistically, I very well may have picked up a cv 21/3.5, 35 1.7 and 75 1.5 if I was rebuilding my kit today.

It was touched on earlier intelligently by NRKstudio, but I don’t think people appreciate how the 75 Lux handles colors and texture with such delicacy and richness. That’s why it’s such a hard lens to compared with. Regardless, this CV 75 1.5 looks great.

I am most eagerly awaiting a CV 28 1.4 as I would love a good small fast 28 with with great rendering but haven’t been on fire though there are several competent option.

I'm also waiting for a CV 28/1.4 that behaves like their CV 21/1.4 with high contrast and resolution wide open.
Could even show a tad more SA wide open with f/2 being optimum. (Similar to 75/1.5 Nokton)

Have you tried their 35/1.7? I used it for a while and its a really solid lens. even good on a7r3 as well. Their recent 35/2 Ultron vintage is an awesome little lens as well. Sharp at center, decent bokeh, very small in size. It's a remake of the Leica 8 element Summicron (just completely re-done lol). It's like how this 75/1.5 may have been a take on the 75 Summilux. They are redoing all the classic Leica lenses, with awesome modern tech.

The 28/1.4 would be a sight to see though. If it would be anything like their 35/1.7, 50/1.2 or this 75/1.5, I may sell another Leica lens for a CV replacement. It's going to be a tough battle though, as the Leica 28/1.4 Summilux is a modern Leica lens and one of their sharpest wide angle pieces. Even the latest 28/2.8 Leica is sharp and tiny.

I haven't tried the 35 f/1.7, but it does look like an excellent lens and it is certainly a lens I am considering for my small lens kit. It really needs a front filter, however, on a mirrorless camera to deal with the sensor induced field curvature, and I would like to avoid that if possible.

If you look at the actual lens diagrams you will see the new 35 f/2 ultron is nothing like the design of the classic 8 element Leica summicron. The Leica is a very symmetrical double gauss design, but the new CV ultron is definitely not symmetrical and not really double gauss. It is a very modern design whereas the Leica is very classic. Really nothing a like other than that they have the same number of elements. I don't think this CV 75 f/1.5 is that close to the Madler 75 summilux either. Both have seven element but the Leica only has five groups whereas the CV has six and the Leica has four element in back and the CV has four elements in front. The Leica is a lot more symmetrical as well.

I do agree that the Leica 28 summilux is a fantastic lens, but it does have some CA wide open that doesn't go away until F/2.8, and has a mid zone dip in resolution that doesn't go away until f/5.6. Still I loved the lens when I owned it. I think, however, there is lots of room for a CV 28 f/1.4 that is nearly as good and a lot cheaper. Personally, I would rather see, however, a smaller and yet still high performing CV 28 f/1.8 or f/2.

The CV 35/1.7 Ultron is really strong at center on the Sony but even with the 5m PCX, it's not that formidable off axis. Similar performance as Loxia 35/2 at smaller apertures.
We still need two high performance 28mm and 35mm lenses from Voigt for the E-mount.

Voightlander best lenses for a Sony shooter. 12,15,21mm 1.4 and 3.5,40 1.2,50 1.2, this 75 and the 65 and 110

There is no 28 or 35 here folks. I've had both the 35 1.7 28 ultron both with PCX. End of the day it's kinda a Kludge fudge.

You want a 28 get the Sony 24 and paint in 28 and pretend

Not sure why it “makes sense for L users” since an adapter will be required for L cameras too. Unless you meant M users, in which case it makes perfect sense given that M bodies since the M4-P have had 75mm framelines and the next M focal length up is 90mm, which is just far enough away from 75mm to make the switch worthwhile. (I’ll ignore the ZM 85/2 and 85/4 lenses since they were designed for the Ikon.) As a number of other members have pointed out, the CV 75/1.5 works best on Sony with either a 35mm or a 40mm and that pairing pretty much assumes that neither a 50mm nor a 65mm nor an 85mm will be part of the lineup.
