p.1 #1 · Best point and shoot cameras under $300 (well, preferable under $250)

Background info:
My boyfriend wants a camera to do some photoshoots with friends + for kind of professional services (some clothing companies give him products to model on social media now and then). He doesn't want an interchangeable lens camera, and prefers shoots with deep depth of field. He does shoot some at night.

He will want something:
a) with a better camera than an iPhone X
b) something that can connect to his iPhone via bluetooth
c) pocketable (I might steal it now and then, too)

I was thinking an RX100 MKI would be perfect for him, but is there anything else I should consider? Likely will just get something off of the buy and sell forum.

Ricoh GR II has an APS-C sensor, and the 28mm focal length might be suitable for full body portraits/modeling. Maybe investing $250 for better light and using an iPhone will give better results for static subjects.

With that requisites my first suggestion would be to get a Panasonic LX100. Even if the size may be a bit bigger than most compacts, the image quality and versatility is worth it on my opinion.

Other than that, I would just get whatever used 1" sensor camera I could get within the budget, some options are:

- Sony RX100 MkII, MkIII, etc..
- Canon G9X
- Canon G7X
- Panasonic ZS100
- Panasonic LX15

The image quality should be similar in any of these options, of course the most recent cameras will have benefits like snappier operation and other extras like touchscreen and (maybe) better image-stabilization (which could make a huge difference for low light shooting).

I'm partial to the Panasonic options since their usability tends to be superior and offer a lot of features for a lower price. The stabilization is also very good on Panasonic cameras.

If usability and manual controls are important you may also consider a Fujifilm X30, the sensor is a bit smaller than the 1", but I believe the results will still be better than a smartphone.

Thank you so much for the response. I think if this camera were for me I'd definetely be getting an LX100 (well, honestly an RX1). I'll look at the Panasonic options, though, I hadn't really considered them and I did really like the GH4 I used to have access to. It looks like the RX100 MkI actually doesn't have wireless functionality, so I'll have to rule that one out. Will look at the Fuji, as well! Thank you!
