Yeah, thanks for explaining that...:-) A lot of stuff can be considered flimsy by that standard. So If one has the habit of bending your memory cards SD it probably not the best fit.

In the end, all-format has its strength and weaknesses, if you buy good cards, and treat them as intended they will work just fine.

If you're clumsy there really isn't a cure, sorry.

I never had a card/reader/camera fail on me. I also replace my memory cards every 2 years.

people tend to do a whole lot of questionable things.

as these products progressed and matured I extended out their usability length. on CF and SD originally went out 2 years then at the end 4 was the limit on CF

i'm going to see how far I can take these XQD cards. not because of price more to do with the technology and build. my oldest is at approx. 5 years now. as CFexp finally comes to fruition the pricing will fall due to more sources. that in itself can be a 2 bladed sword. so as you said stay with a known good product.

I have had readers go primarily due to the built in cabling at the time.

The Sony Tough SD cards are a lot stronger and don't have those thin plastic ridges between the pins or the lock slider on them. I'd check those out if you want something more robust.

I have those as well as traditional Sandisk, Sony is a lot more rigid, but if you take proper care of your memory cards the Sandisk will work just as well.

face it most buyers on price really when they are going after SD. The Sony Tough cards SD UHS II are priced within just a few $ of an XQD card from Sony/Delkin. And certain people whine about XQD. If you really can use UHS II and you don’t its not too smart.

Looking closely at some of the label and construction details of that SD card, and comparing it to my own SanDisk Extreme Pro SD card, I'm wondering if that is a counterfeit card.

Lesson: Read the warranty. Almost every warranty is limited to defects in materials and workmanship. "Lifetime" doesn't mean forever. Doesn't even mean your lifetime. I know of at least one company that states "Lifetime" means the usable lifetime of the product.

If you want a product with a no questions asked lifetime warranty, buy some Darn Tough socks. Everything else is a roll of the dice.

You must be very lucky to never have experienced a camera failure.
Even without impact damage, drowning, or other abuse I've seen many failures.
Shutter, advance mechanism, rewind mechanism, aperture control, AF system, mirror box, metering, etc. can fail with little or no warning. In the digital era at least a failure is usually obvious in the field, but not always.

I know this is more about Sandisk but I had 2 Lexar cards fail on a trip in Costa Rica last year. The cards where Micron 256GB cards, the old Lexar company. The new Lexar company honored the warranty and sent me the current value at the time of $599 per card. I thought that was a very stand up thing to do from Lexar. They where the only cards that I have ever failed me over the years.

Kudos to Lexar

I never experience a camera failure in the memory card slot, be it CF, or SD.

Ah, I take very good care of my SD cards. They're very expensive, i.e. I use mostly the Sandisk "Extreme Pro," which is their top card, and other than one Lexar, I've never owned any other brand-card. I remove the card straight, not at an angle, but this piece broke off after I had removed it from the camera and my guess is that it was long-term fatique.

I looked back at my records in dealing with Sandisk because they wanted a copy of the receipt, and I purchased a couple of these 64GB cards in the fall of 2015. So that's four years of use. Unfortunately, I can't get the 6D to use bluetooth, and I can't get the cord means to work quite right, but I'm working on that so I don't have to pull the card out anymore.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

July 26, 2019:

After convincing the folks at Sandisk that "lifetime warranty" is a lifetime warranty and a four year old card is TOO new, Sandisk sent me a replacement card. The thing that surprised me was that I could not retrieve any data from the card, making it unusable.

Sandisk's reputation is restored (in my book).
Thanks for reading this.

I work at a rental house.
Lots of cards get broken SD, SxS CFast etc.
Pretty much all of them.
The plastic is pretty thin on all cards.
It gets brittle over time and fails.

The fairly new Sony TOUGH SD cards are amazing.
I'm never using any other SD cards since I tried them.
The design is that good.
