Great stuff Geoff... these buggers are so darn to find in the viewfinder let alone track and photograph.
cheers,
bruce
Thanks Bruce...in my experience it is all about location, location, location....you need enough of them around for lots of attempts, you need them passing on regular flight paths and you also need a background that isn't too crazy to grab the focus away. Then the rest is down to a bit of skill, a lot of Auto AF and a lot of luck

These are all superb! Getting good images of these fast and erratic birds is a real challenge. I particularly like the frame with two birds. Is the upper one contemplating stealing the bug?
Dave
Thanks Dave, I think that one was eyeing the other one's catch, I have three or four out of that sequence as it flew above the other. It was actually 2-3x higher above the other but I moved them closer in the final image.

They will give you a good workout. Beauties Geoff
Morris
Thanks Morris...thank goodness for the lighter lenses we have today...I think these would be next to impossible with heavier gear.

Is that Sony engraved under wing, Geoff...
Top notch my friend.
Voted!
Pius
Thanks Pius. Half of these fly for Sony, the other half for Nikon
Nice Geoff, just saw this now. I was at that same location with Geoff the very next day (unfortunately the birds weren't doing anything) but I can assure readers that the colours are representative of the location.

A true challenge indeed Geoff and you have superbly pulled it off! I have attempted this a couple of times myself and I am yet to nail any frame that I like
Thanks

Incredible captures and great skill! However, the colors look unnatural and weird to me. Was it harsh light? Do you have a color-calibrated monitor? A friend of mine struggles with his Sony colors, while his Canon colors always come out perfect. What time of day were you shooting?
8-10AM, On the harsh side considering the time of year. Sony colors are a bit more of a struggle but having a profile made makes them pretty easy to manage. Half of these are with Nikon. Yes I have a color-calibrated monitor with the i1displaypro.
