p.2 #1 · Should I get 135mm 2.0?

I have a somewhat photography-101 question for those of who who took all these beautiful pictures.

Did you take these pictures in full manual modes or with programs like aperture priority. Please enlighten me.

By the way...even if it may overlap with my 70-200 zoom, i'm definitely going to buy this very fast....I don't care if people call me a collector or not.

Any mode that allows you to keep the aperture close to wide open will give you beautiful images. This lens combines sharpness at/near wide open with the most beautiful background blur.

I just ran some focus tests using 3 staggered batteries and took successive shots at f2, 2.8, 4.0, 5.0, 5.6 and 8.0. Quite remarkably, the center battery sharpness (focus point) changes very little across this aperture range. In fact when you look at each picture in succession as you stop down, its hard to say that the in focus area even sharpens, which is why some people say with maybe a bit of exageration that this lens is sharpest wide open. What does change is the depth of field and the background blur. These images are straight out of the camera, full image size but reduced for the web. The left battery is about 2 inches behind the center battery; the right battery is 2 inches in front of the center battery.

My question is reversed. I have the 135 and am thinking about the 70-200. The only advanatage I can think of is the quick zoom. I know I'm going to pay a significant price in quality for the zoom. Is it worth it?

"Significant" is considerably overstating the case. "Minor" is more like it. The 70-200/2.8L IS is one of the best zoom lenses you can buy. I have a 6MB JPEG shot with the 70-200/2.8L IS here.

Is there that much difference between the USA vs Grey 135mm?

Just the warranty card and how you obtain warranty service if you ever need it. Some say that Canon USA will sometimes honor the grey warranty.
