Disclaimer: This report is one of those "unnecessary effort but we still do it anyway" This is not for everyone. This is not for your daily shooting. This is not for BIF. This just to let you know that we can push the limit that typical dslr or any other system wouldn't be able to achieve.
=================================================
Sony A9 retains full auto focus with ALL 4 tele-converter stacking together. It needs to go as this order:
1. Canon 600IS ii (or any other lens)
2. Canon 2x II (only v2 allow you double stack)
3. Canon 2x II (only v2 allow you double stack)
4. Canon 2x III
5. Metabone version 5 (only v5 allow you to stack with Sony TC)
6. Sony 1.4x
7. A9
There seem to be a bug (good bug) from A9 that it ONLY read the first 2 TC that attach to it. In this case,
600IS ii + Sony 1.4x + 3 (2x TC) = f/11 @1680mm (Camera see)
600IS ii + Sony 1.4x + 3 (2x TC) = f/40 @6720mm (real info)
That info is the only thing Sony A9 see and record it down in exif. ==> it doesn't see the other 2 (2x TC), therefore, the camera still be able to AF. It is not super fast AF. Static shot is ok.
This will not work for my friends in UK (you guy don't have much sun through out the year..lol). For us here in California, we have plenty of sun so using this is ok.
Images quality is not too bad. As long as you can keep your shutter above 1/1600 and reduce as much vibration on the combo, it is doable. Is it fun to shot like this? Heck no..BUT the feeling of be able to do the impossible is rewarding.
p.1 #8 · A9 shooting with f/40 @6720mm lens and still auto focus
But how is corner sharpness? Where are the corner crops? And does it improve stopped down?
And seriously (if seriousness is even possible) my calculator says DOF would be 4cm or less until your subject is 35 meters or more away, when it rises to a very generous 6cm. Until 18m there apparently is no depth of field at all - it is zero!!
I was impressed that my calculator even accepted the input to be honest.
