It is Dec 20th, the promise date of the 600mm release. Anyone hear anything? Shipping notice etc here in the US.?
Nope, not a peep. Normally not a big deal, but because I'm leaving on Sunday for a week, I don't want it to be arriving while I'm not home (I know I can have it held at FedEx/UPS, but still). If it does ship in the next few days, I may see if I can change my shipping address so it gets delivered to me on holiday
I mentioned in another thread, a Canon rep told me they were shipping out yesterday, but the 3rd Party stores would be a day or two later than Canon USA. Also, at least some good news, they said that the lenses were probably already at the stores warehouse, but until Canon gave them the green light, they weren't able to add them to their systems, so the staff wouldn't even know they were there or not (hence the reason why none of them know anything). I'm thinking that the few early recipients in Canada got theirs sent accidentally, against the gag order.

I'll tell you what Matthew. I wouldn't do this for just anyone but for you I will pm you my shipping address so that you can contact them tomorrow and have the shipping address changed.
This way you can go on your trip and not have to worry about where your lens is.
I'll even spend the time to open and inspect the product just to make sure it's ok. And of course I will call you to let you know it arrived safely. Then once you return home just call me and I'll promtly get it shipped out to you.
I know it's asking a lot of me to do something like this, however I feel it's worth it and just my way of saying thanks for sharing your amazing images here with us.
On a serious note. I hope you get it quickly and have a safe trip.

question for 600IS iii owner that has A9. Is it just me the AF/focus is slower to respond compare to v2? is Canon using a new protocols communication method? MC11 or MB5 needs to update their firmware?

I can't say as I don't have the Mk III. However, Pius did mention when he tried his friend's A9 on it that it had problems focusing at MFD. Not sure if that meant it wouldn't focus at MFD or was just slow to focus?? Does yours focus at MFD with the A9? That sort of behaviour could point to focusing issues with the new lenses on adapters.

If anyone owns both the 600L II and 600 L III or has access to both, could you do test photos of a 3D object in controlled lighting? I don't find the photos of paper/money to be good enough as the fine tones that our eyes use to indicate depth are something greatly influenced by the lenses ability to reproduce.
Tip: Use bounce flash if you need to to control lighting and eliminate and changing light outdoors due to cloud.
I have the 600II now but am hearing reports that the 600III is actually suffering from worse image quality than the version II in order to shed the Lb on it's new diet.

Sorry to sound like "that guy" but none of the recent shots except for the kingfisher look sharp at all to me. And even the kingfisher is not as detailed as I think it should be with a 5dsr and the 600 iii. Those with and without the extenders look the same. Not sure if the lens is having some issues or what? Do not mean to sound rude in any way but just being honest.

Hey, I know what you mean about not wanting to sound negative. To me, I’d not so much call them “ not sharp” in my own personal terminology, but more importantly to me, the images I’ve seen with the new lens lack the tonality and 3D punch from the version II. The image has an almost milky aperence ( only in comparison to the legendary version II).
I can understand this decision to sacrifice quality maaaaayyybee if they continued production and support of the version II lens, and the version III was simply a lighter alternative option, not a replacement though. For sure in my opinion, this lens is not a replacement especially given the images with the teleconverters.
I hesitate even writing this only out of greed lol. I hope people don’t see it and like me, intend to buy an additional duplicate new copy of the version II 600 and 400 while I still have the chance.

To be fair the images posted are all in fairly harsh and strong light which has likely washed some of the punch that you mention. I do not think you can properly judge punch and how good the lens is by some photos in harsh light that do not have critical sharpness as well. I think it remains to be seen if there are quality issues with the lens or that there are just so few copies out there that not enough critical reviews have come out and people have not had the time to produce high quality photos with the lens. Probably much more likely that people are just rushing to post and not posting their A+ shots. Canon has an long history of making extremely high quality optics. I do not think that they would sacrifice image quality on one of their flagship lenses.

Don't feel bad about commenting on my photos good or bad..
I'm hoping to see other photographers post so I can compare, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but I don't see many photos posted with Canon 600mm III.
I bought this lens for the weight reduction, for now I don't see much difference in image quality between 600 II vs 600 III.
All of the photos posted here are big crops, I have taken pictures of robins and other small birds that i can get close to... the 600 III has detail resolving power.. (It has punch) ;}
