Great shot! Was there in mid-May with my tripod in the same location, a daunting spot when the tide is in. Can't tell you how many folks walked up, turned their back to the hole and took a selfie.
Yes, Thor's Well at Cape Perpetua. Pretty much a roadside attraction, but when I was there, not many people ventured out to the well. I met another photographer there close to high tide and we watched and waited until the swells (10-15ft) and crashing waves settled down. This was taken about 1 hr after high tide.

Here's a shot from my recent trip to the Oregon coast. I had a blast shooting at this location, but it definitely was intimidating.

You captured the "intimidating" factor very well--the dark water, waves, and brooding sky. I lived on the Oregon coast for a number of years, and the "intimidating" is well deserved. The open Oregon coast is known for its "sneaker waves." And despite all the warnings, people still get lulled into walking out to the water's edge, and then being swept away by a big "sneaker wave." It's the Darwinian way of improving the human species by culling out the brainless.
