I took this Saturday night at the Davenport "crack" just north of Santa Cruz. I've made several attempts at this composition over the last couple of years and was generally thwarted by the weather. The downside of trying to get the Milky Way core along the NorCal coast is that we often get a nasty marine layer on summer evenings. Autumn tends to be more clear, but the core doesn't spend much time over the horizon. In any event, my prediction was that things would look pretty good yesterday once the moon set at about 9:45 and that ended up being the case.
The ground layer is 5 minutes at ISO 1600 and f/4. The sky is 30s at ISO 6400. Taken with the Canon EOS R and the Rokinon SP 14mm f/2.4.
