I mess around with portraits whenever I get the chance but am far from a pro. My son and daughter in law asked me to do a set with them and the grand pup for their Christmas cards. We did a few outdoors with rustic backgrounds, and then I suggested we try a plain while background using an open garage door as low-tech lighting. That turned out to be my favorite.
Here is one from the shoot. I know some could pick on the hair in her face, but she kept having to wrestle the dog, and things happen. She's a country girl and wasn't bothered by it at all.
In addition to business headshots I photograph a lot of pets, and often with their humans. Getting the white backgrounds this clean has been a challenge. How did you get it so clean and white?
Great shot, The only nit I might add is the blue of her jeans is just a tiny bit distracting to me, and probably only me. But I wonder if the blue could be slightly desaturated so as to be a little less noticeable?
Very cute shot and great job on that white background and not overexposing the skin (hot spots.) If the hair doesn't bother, then no biggie, but I do think it could be cloned out. My biggest critique is the posing. A.) I'd like to see a little bit more of him and B.) it would be more flattering of her if her hips had been shifted backwards with the legs and upper body pointed a bit toward the camera. I'm just saying that, in general, ladies are less happy about being the bulk of the photo, in my experience.
I love the idea of the garage set up and, it seems, use of natural light! It looks very much like a studio shot. This will make a gorgeous Christmas card.
Personally, I would fix her hair. If it were an outdoor shot with a little more "in the moment" feel, I think it would be okay. For a clearly posed studio shot, I think it would look a lot nicer. Still, great shot!
